the Church of Scientology

I've heard a lot of things about scientology. I really dont know what this is essentially about. I know John Travolta and Tom Cruise are (in)famous about being scientologists. What is scientology? I havent had the tiem to research about it yet, so anyone with info and can help me understand what it is, pls do respond. And i would appreciate it too if responders will be objective. I'm just very curious about this scientology thing. And pls, no haters, ok? Respect everybody's opinion.

I don't know all that much about the daily beliefs and rituals of scientology, but I do know this.
The religion was started by a SCIENCE FICTION writer, who was famous for saying "I'm going to start a religion, that's where the money is."
That pretty much tells me all I need to know.

From what I know they believe the human race was brought to earth by a master alien, who will one day return. . . I forget the alien's name.
I remember reading somewhere that on the land the church of scientology owns they set up markings and landing pads for when the aliens return. . . Not sure if that's true though.
I think it gets a lot of bad press because people beleive they are involved in brain washing (whether they are or not I don't know), and that the church taes earnings from it's members, essentially making it a profit seeking organisation.

don't know very much about it except the founder was Ron L Hubbard and it's supposed to be a large variety of teachings for people from all walks of life. The philosophy is basically that man is an immortal spiritual being, his experience extends well beyond a single lifetime, and his capabilities are unlimited even if not presently realized. Its about spiritual realisation and transformation through study and techniques.
