I have a neighbor who says she has bipolar disorders and take meds for her conditions. What I know about the disorder is that the person has more or less what I call mood swings, aggressive behavior. My neighbor is more of a pill popper. I wonder if others deal with people with bipolar disorders besides those in the psych ward.

Bipolar used to be called Manic/Depressive. Those who have it tend to have wild mood swings from extremely happy to extremely depressed. They do tend to get violent when in the low cycle (depressive). Doctors give them a prescription to keep their moods leveled out. The medical profession swears these meds work. After suffering from depression & knowing what the meds did to me, I have my doubts how effective the meds are. I hope your neighbor's meds help her get better!!!

I hope he has her under control. You're wise to keep yourself removed from her problems. Sounds like she needs a friend more than anything else. Oh, btw, thank you for the BR.

Years ago, I dated a man with bipolar disorder. His doctor had him on some serious meds (including lithium..whoa) and I guess they must have really put him out like a light at night because he had a tendency to pee the bed, which to me, was a big turn off. I did try to be understanding and compassionate, but I thought to myself, since this was a relatively new realtionship and all, am I going to want to make this a long term commitment? I realized that the answer for me, was no. He was an outstanding guy while he was on his meds, but when he didn't take them (so he could go out partying to the bar cuz ya can't drink at all when you're on them) he had massive mood swings and there were times when he'd keep me up all night long because he just couldn't seem to sit still and his mind would race from one topic to another. A couple of years ago, I had gotten a call from a mutual friend and she told me something that shocked me...He came out of the closet. I had no frickin' idea that he was gay...and sometimes I wonder if maybe it's his bipolar disorder at work...but most likely not. I suppose he must've always had feelings for men, but just didn't act on it until he was ready(?). Anywho, that's the story of my dealings with a person that has bipolar disorder. I feel for the people who are afflicted with it and I wish there was a cure for it...maybe someday there will be.

I used to date a bipolar. It wasn't fun. She would be ready to fight (yes, fight) over the least little thing. On a couple of occasions she became extremely angry at me for eating my meat before my vegetables, a habit I didn't even realise I had!
Does it matter? It was a deadly sin to her!
I am glad I am out of that relationship, and married the woman I have married!
