As far as I know any meat can give you take worms. I think pork carries the highest risk though. In the US it is really rare to get a tape worm from fish though. If people get tape worms they are usually from another source. Raw fish is fairly safe to eat - as long as it is super fresh and the right grade. The vast majority of people who get tapeworms in the US have traveled abroad and actually picked up the worms on their travels.

Tape worms in Salmon - My favourite fish. I never heard of it before. Anyway, I cook it before eating and never eats raw as some people do. I have heard of tape worms in pork only and that is the reason why it needs to be cooked well before eating.

I never realized that one could get tape worms from fish. I for the most part don't eat the stuff (and on the rare occasions that I do, it is well cooked). On a slightly off topic, but related story, I have a friend who when she was a little girl, was a heavy girl (she still is really), so (and this was the late 50's early 60's) her mom took her to the doctor to see if anything could be done about it. So, they had her come in et the beginning of the month then again at the end and take a month off, in a cycle. At the beginning the doctor would give her 6 little pills, and she would just start losing weight a few days later, with no dietary or exercise changes. At the end of the month he'd giver her 6 more pills and the weight loss would cease. Then a month off and the whole process would start again. This went on for a while and my friends mom finally asked the doctor what those pills were doing exactly. The doctor said "Well, with the first set, I am giving her the tape worm, with the second, I am killing it." (My friend actually had a clue what was happening as since she had flush toilets at school (outhouse at home) she could see some of the segments of the worm sometimes.) Needless to say, that was her last tapeworm treatment.

This is something new that I have learned of tapeworms being in salmon. This is something that I enjoy eating. I guess that I would have to be more careful when cooking and eating this type of fish.
