toyota used to have very good fuel economy and low carbon footprints, even their pickup trucks and SUV's. they did that by not including many accessories, and keeping everything simple. nowadays, they've responded to customer demands for more stylish and powerful cars, and so their fuel economy suffered. their reliability is also worsening. 20 years ago, they made near-indestructible trucks; now, the Tundra isn't even on Consumer Report's recommended list anymore. generally, though, it's still a very good brand. and the corolla is still as basic as ever, with no power windows or locks even, and very few accessories. it's cheap, though. a fully loaded corolla is only around $16000 now, i think.
