What is the best thing to know about going on a low cholestrol diet? I know oats is good so eating oatmeal for breakfast would be a good idea as would Cherrios. And of course fruits and vegetables are always good. But what other things should I know. My hubby needs to start on this diet and as the cook I need to know what to do to help him with this. Thanks.

Less beef, like once a week, more Chicken & fish. Salmon is a very good fish! Use Olive oil no other oil. If you can get some good tofu recipes I have heard that it is good for you! A good place to find soem recipes is: www.allrecipes.com I hope that this helps ya out!

The "MUFA" eating plan is promoted as a diet to reduce belly fat, but it also reduces the accumulation of fatty buildup in the arteries and helps regulate all cholesterol readings. (raises the good and lowers the bad). You can find a little about it here. http://www.kutv.com/content/lifestyle/healthyliving/story.aspx?content_id=37011314-9375-4c55-b41e-8369a46bef65 and you can also do a search for MUFA. You'll get a lot of stuff that doesn't pertain to food, but there'll be some food related ones too. MUFA is mono unsaturated fatty acid found in plants. There is also omega3 PUFA (polyunsaturated fatty acid) which is found in fish and is great for lowering triglicerides which inflame the lining of the veins and arteries and cause the body to "plaster" cholesterol over the inflammation for protection. To just lower the cholesterol isn't sufficient for vascular health, you have better results if you correct the root of the problem. As the previous post stated, less red meat, more fish and chicken. Definitely more raw fruits and veggies, less dairy. The meat should be only about 1/4 of the total intake for a meal and it should always be lean meat. The Asian people believe that you should NEVER drink something cold with a meal. It solidifies any fat of any type and your system can't break it down. They believe in always having a warm soup or hot tea of some kind with your meal.

I'm not on this diet exactly. It is a very healthy way of eating and I've been studying nutrition and the effects of what we eat on our body from any free source I can find for about 10 years. I'm an herbologist, and got a good base in nutrition in the process of studying that. I've studied other alternative healing methods. In every field I've researched it all comes down to diet and lifestyle to stay healthy. The main thing I watch is the additives and chemicals in the processed foods. I don't like fat, so the meat I've always eaten has been a healthy meat, and the more I learn, the more healthy my diet has become. I just try to stay away from fried food and junk.

You gave me lots of very good information. I appreciate it very much. Are you on this diet? I kind of agree with the Asians about not drinking something cold with a meal. I prefer hot tea also. Thanks again.
