why did dr. watson move back in with sherlock holmes in the later stories?  |

 correct me if i'm wrong, but chronologically, isn't the sign of four the second (chrinicled?) adventure watson had w/ holmes. and it was after this time that he married mary morstan and then moved out of holmes' 221b baker st. quarters. but in the later stories that came out, watson has moved back in w/ holmes. why do you think he did? maybe because he was widowed?

1.  Angelwriter (1190) | 1 year ago |  I'm not completely familiar with the original stories, but I think it was because he was widowed. Either that, or Doyle never explained why Watson came back, and fans just put in the most likely explanation, that Mary had died.

2.  Sherlockindo (128) | 1 year ago |  You're right, but I think there is no chronological time in most of Holmes stories. I think almost all of his adventures is stand alone except for some stories like Scandal in Bohemia and The Final Problem. I don't know why Doyle made it like that but honestly sometimes I'm also confused with the plot.

3.  satishmania (126) | 1 year ago |  I have read all Holmes stories atleast 5 times. I cannot imagine how Watson came back to live with Holmes. Perhaps he was widowed. And If you have read carefully Doyle starts two of his stories with the same conversation between Holmes and Watson.I mean its repetitive. The adventure of Resident Patient and The adventure of Cardbox have the same exact start. I wonder if Doyle himself forget that one!
