living miserly vs. spending needlessly

yup! times are hard. but how we respond to the situation determines our overall well-being and joy. sometimes we tend to live miserly just so that we can save up and become richer. but i think that the quality of life depends not on just how much we have made and saved up but also in how we live our lives and how we spend our money. i mean, we may have a fat bank account but we don't have friends so we do not enjoy ourselves, i don't consider that being rich. a rich life is a combination of having much or little, and making the most out of it. that is it for me. but of course, we should also guard ourselves against spending needlessly, such as keeping up with the joneses, and just keeping up with the trends. we all don't need a new cellphone or a new pair of sandals or slippers. we don't have to keep up--that is what we have to bear in mind. in everything, moderation is the key. God bless us all!

I totally agree with you on this issue. you can have all the money in the world and still not be a fullfiled person. I think that you need good people around you that love you and care about you. This is worth more that all the money in the world. Otherwise all you have is yourself and that is a very boring partner at times.

Hello spoiled311, I agree with you. A moderate life is better than anything else. I agree that money is important in our lives but in this life, it is not all about money. I came across many who have a lot of money but still feeling unhappy with their lives or people who have nothing but they can still survive and put on a big smile on their face. As for me, as long as I can live happily with my loved ones and have money to support my family, to spend a bit and still can save some, are more than enough!

We usually do not mind spending on food. On other things though, we try to spend on what we need first than what we want. Cost of living now is very high and to spend UNwisely is really not nice. People need to learn how to save because it will be a pity for the children we will leave behind and their children and their children's children too.
