I'd like to know the basics of web design |
| |
| I want to create and maintain my own website but up to now I am not sure what the basics of web design are. I'd like to learn how to create one so that I can make use of it as one of my income-generating vehicles. I learned that some people earn through websites even when they are asleep or on a far away place enjoying their vacation. I myself would want to have the chance of living their way and enjoy my life to the fullest. But before that, I should know the basics. Is there any website or resources that you know could help and teach me? | | | | | |

| | I know absolutely nothing about Web Design so that is why I am taking classes at my local junior college. When I am finished with the program, I will have a Web Design Certificate. That way, I have something to back me up when I start earning money designing websites for other people. Look into home studying schools that offer web design. Usually, these schools offer online learning or learn-at-home courses. Also, check out your local junior college and see if you can take a intro to web design class. This class will teach you the basics of creating websites. | | | | | | |

| | I will recommend you the book 'Building a Website for Dummies' by David A. Crowder. It is one of the best book if you don't know anything about website building and how to make it popular. It has many useful information on publicizing your website also. Buy and start. There will be a free trial CD along with the book. | | | | | | |

| | HI fedge, I started a site from scratch early this month. I did document the important steps like website hosting provider, web design -wordpress, google adsense and some reviews. Some people prefer to use bloggers.com but I chose to have my own domain which is more professional. Anyway, if you want to find out more, you can check out my site through my profile. If you have any questions, I'm more than happy to help. I know how difficult the process can be so if I can be of any help, just drop me a comment on my blog and I'll get back to you. | | | | | | |

| | I have wondered the same thing. Looks like you got some good info. I think it can get pretty expensive to have someone else build one for you. Good luck with it. I will check back on this to see what else turns up here. | | | | | | |

| | I noticed that someone mentioned having your own domain, and that is very important, for search engine ranking. As for creating and maintaining your own site... For a quick and easy way, just starting out, I'd suggest getting your own domain, hosted someplace with cpanel access. Most hosts, that have a cpanel, for your use, have Fantastico on it, and from there you can easily install WordPress. WordPress has probably hundreds, or even thousands, of themes available for it, that can be used for free. There are also groups available, to help you learn to use it, through google and yahoo. You could use that, to get yourself up and running quickly, as you learn html, etc, or how to build your own WordPress themes and templates (If you're really interested in building a site from the ground up.). Or, you could use it as a permanent solution, either using free themes or purchasing them. | | | | | | |

| | Actually, I own a couple domains, phelynes.com, and, I got another one just yesterday, bambisopportunities.info. (Which remembering makes me think of something else I need to say.) Phelynes.com, I have been totally confused, about just where I want to go with, and I'm currently trying to learn how to build WordPress themes, as well as investigating social networking sites, so, there isn't a lot there. I also do pixel painting, and am considering offering comments for use on social networking sites, as well as other things. bambisopportunities.info will be various opportunities I've found, for starting to earn online with little or nothing out of pocket. Which brings me to the point I needed to mention. I got bambisopportunities.info through Microsoft Live Small Business. The hosting is free, and the first years registration of the domain name was too. They have a site builder available, that is easy to use, and offer lots of help, for building your site and getting it going. The only thing at bambisopportunities.info is the starter page they place, when your domain goes live, but, you can get to the page to find out about getting your own site and domain, through the link in the footer. I hope something, in all I've said, was helpful. Blessings! Bambi | | | |

| | Hi Phelyne or Bambi. This response is a really useful one. I'll be looking at the website you just mentioned including the free domain and hosting offers. I hope I can get the basics there. And since it is free I think it is worth the try. By the way, is this offer free I mean, is there an expiration to this offer? I hope none since I think I need to know other basic things before going there. Thanks! | | | |

| | Thank you. I'm glad you liked my response. That offer has been available from Microsoft Office Live Small Business, for some time now. Now that I think about it, I don't recall actually seeing much, if anything, around about it. I can see where having the offer available could be beneficial to them, as they do have things available for purchase, the domain name is only free for the first year, and, there is a link in the footer (Small, though it may be.). You should know, if you read my post about cpanel access, Fantastico and WordPress, the Office Live offer doesn't have that available, though you can upload and access files, and it has many other good features. You should also know, if you use Firefox, as I do, you should go ahead and get the IE Tab add on, as the site builder, and I'm thinking other areas, only work properly in IE. (To be expected, as it is from Microsoft.) | | | |

| | Don't think about basic.. Just think for professional.. All you need to play with designing software. I use photoshop cs3. Just play with color, think new ideas, read a tutorials around web, collect the web layout and give new and your own design. After having ideas of layout.. then we will go for htmal, css, etc. Just try to create preview of web design in photoshop. Its going popular and easy to create web rather than going directly to coding. | | | | | | |
