try lemonade or koolaid with a little sugar or you can use sugar water and put an artificial flower on it to attract them.

Boil 4 cups water and stir in 1 cup sugar. Stir to dissolve. cool, pour into the pitcher and refrigerate until needed. we've always added a couple drops of red food coloring to color the water...ive heard ppl say its not safe for hummers and ppl say it doesnt harm them at all..so i dont know about that part anymore lol. if your hummers tend to make a spot check even when the feeders are empty then probably try without the food coloring. the ones around here wont even stop at the feeder unless there is red visible above the little flower ports.
