identify possible cherry tree

Have a tree in front of the house which appears to be a cherry tree; it has very dark red simple petal flowers. It came with the house but has never borne fruit. Could this be a cherry tree ? Ornamental only or fruit bearing? Leaves are also mostly reddish burgundy

Hi chboy43,
My understanding is that it can take anywhere between 3 - 6 years before a cherry tree is in full blossom.
The leaves are a bit rubbery and thick and I so love to visit our Botannic Gardens in IL during the month of July as they are quite in full bloom at that time.
Here is a picture of what they look like in full bloom.

Hay..! I ate only cherry, but I don't know whether it is cherry tree or not..!
