My house was on it's way to becoming "The Money Pit"

Ever since we've gotten back from vacation, our house is showing it's age. The first night we were back, the controls on the ovens went out. We have a double oven and we couldn't get it turned off. We finally got it off and thought if it rested for a while it would work again. Well, we couldn't get it turned back on - either oven. We called the repairman and he looked at it. It needs a new control panel, which is about $400. Then, before our party over the weekend, we thought we'd turn the air conditioner back on so if it got hot people would be comfortable. Well, after we turned it on, it got hotter than it was before! Since it was a holiday weekend, we had to wait until Tuesday to call someone in. Luckily it wasn't too hot for our party. Also, we were lucky that it was something simple. He fixed it in one day and it was only $200. I hope nothing else goes wrong with the house for a while, we need to recuperate!

i agree with you. owning a house can get to be an expensive venture. i would sooner rent one, but my hubby is the type that wants to own his own house. personally, i really dont care a whole lot either way.

Owning is better for many reasons - for us anyways. I know it's better for some to rent though.

I have seen that movie. It sounds to me as if your house was jealous of you taking a trip and wanted you to pay some attention to it. You may need a house sitter next time. I would be tempted on the oven to get a brand new one, at that price.

I thought about getting a brand new oven also, but we have a double oven and they start at about $1,300. If I went to a single oven in it's place, I'd be redoing the cabinets. So it's cheaper to just get it fixed...

My parents' AC went out at the beginning of the summer and they had to get a whole new system (their's was over 30 years old, so it was certainly time). That's the problem with those types of things, you don't replace them until they break, and you never turn them on until you need them so your always left sweating it out until the repairman can come.

Well, they came and fixed it right away, but there's some kinda leak up there now. So, we're still without the A/C...
