Do you think the public school system is giving children the education they need? I'm not a teacher nor a parent only a tax payer and I'm not sure my tax dollars are being spend wisely in this case.

I don't want to bash the public school system. BUT, I homeschool for a reason. I have a 9 year old and a 4 1/2 year old. My 9 year old was born with a kidney disease resulting in a kidney transplant when she was 1 1/2. Because of being in the hospital during formative years in fact she was not walking until she was about 2 (she was on dialysis and couldn't stand up due to fluid gain), she has been developmentally delayed. I put her in PPEC which is a prescribed Preschool sort of program for kids with different problems. They were great!! When she turned 5 I started to put her in school and found a problem with needing some medical clearance saying that she had to drink SEVERAL ounces of water and could not "hold it" - if she had to go to the bathroom - they would need to let her just go. I got frustrated & checked into homeschooling. Since that time she has made leaps and bounds. She once was considered about 2 - 3 years behind, she is now approx. 1 year behind. I love it. My 4 1/2 yr old has been in preschool (at home) and is done with that and now starting Kindergarten because she loves school and cries if we don't do it. Once I made the decision to homeschool, I was so glad. I hear on the news all these horrible stories about what happens to some kids at school and misc. issues. Best decision my husband & I ever made! I feel like parents these days homeschool their kids anyway. The homework that is sent home to even the little kids is crazy. Makes me wonder what do they do in class all day? Sorry, you hit a note with me on this one, didn't mean to be so long winded.

I feel so strongly about this issue. I hate that our country has a one-size-fits-all approach to education. NOT EVERYONE LEARNS THE SAME WAY AND NOT EVERYONE CAN LEARN AT 9AM. Not everyone is a morning person. And not everyone learns by being talked to. In fact not many people are/can. We already have studies to prove this. Yet nobody has made ANY effort to change this faulty system.
