What is the best way to console someone who is crying?

hey friends,
All of us come across different problems in our day to day life.. Not all problems make us cry.. but some do.. Crying is of course the best way to express our sorrow. But i wonder how God has created human beings with a strange feeling that we don't feel comfortable when someone cries in front of us. May be that is what we call as "humanity"..
So, we adopt many ways to console the person who is crying.. Now, which do you think is the best way to console a crying person. Is it really good to console them?

Well, I've always been very emotional. When I was younger, I used to hide it, but as I've gotten older I just become emotional at different times. Usually it's if I'm upset, or if someone has hurt me. Since i've become pregnant it is a little worse. I cry over little small things sometimes. When I'm crying, I would like to be held, honestly. I defenitely don't want to be ignored unless I leave the room.
