He has had Type II for several years now. Just wanting to talk to others about the emotional side of the disease. Is depression, anxiety etc. something that you or your spouse are dealing with due to diabetes. How do you handle things at those times? I believe that this is something that is not really talked about much. any comments?

Hi rocketj1 My husband has also had Type 2 diabetes for a few years - brought on most likely because of his weight, with which he has always struggled. He takes a combination of medications and I am always trying to help him to improve his diet and do more exercise, but with us both working full time it is difficult. Not impossible, I know - we both just need to make more effort to improve, and I think we are starting to do so. Within the last few weeks, he has been diagnosed as having an anxiety disorder, which is almost certainly due to issues with his job. He's been signed off for the last four or five weeks and has been given beta blockers to help calm him down, as when he was at work he was having symptoms of panic attacks (tight chest, trouble breathing, heart pounding etc). He's not depressed because almost as soon as the pressure of knowing he had to go to work the next day was lifted, he has been much brighter. I hope that the tablets will have helped him to become strong enough to deal with work when he goes back in a week or so. I had never considered that this might have been made worse by his diabetes, but if anyone has experienced it themselves and has any tips (other than diet and exercise, which we already know about) on how to help him, I would be most grateful to hear them. It's just heart-breaking to see the man you love in tears because he's at the limit of what he can take, and doesn't know what to do next. Many thanks, teedyboo :o)

My husband also has a high pressure job to deal with. I think that the emotional side of diabetes can be aggrevated by that. i DO know that stress in his life has ALWAYS effected his glucose numbers. I appreciate that you shared your story with me. My heart goes out to you. Keep lovin' that man!

though the diabetes is serious disease but it is nothing to worry all is in the hand of GOD.god is very good he always thought about the goodness of all his creature.never lose heart and pray to good for the good health of husband. the prayer never goes useless GOD always help those pepole who pray him from the coreof heart .no need to be in depression.face the realities of life with courage and happiness.prevansion is better than cure. donot give heavy and fried food to him . both of you goout should out for long morning walk . morning walk is the easiest reamdy to get rid of diabetes.have a maxium 10 glass of waterevery day. aviod tension and always be happy and give up junck food .consult you doctor at the oftenly.

have you looked to see if there is an actual physical support group or an online support group for people that have diabetes? i was looking for one for sufferers of chronic pain in my area and am now starting one! best of luck.
