Now here's a book that I think will change the genre of fairies in fantasy. Melissa Marr is a new book author. She has taken the old tried and true stories of the world of fairy's and kicked them up a notch. No longer do we see fairies as a sweet, gentle, beautiful creatures from the mythical world of the Celts. She's let them loose in a world of their true form. When I first ran across a review of her first book, "Wicked Lovely" I knew that it was a book of the kind that I generally read. It sounded like a cross between Lord of the Rings and Narnia. I belong to a book site that rents books, like Netflix. I saw that they had copies, added it to my queue and moved it to the top of my list. I started reading it as soon as it arrived. When I started to read it I went "Whoa! What have I gotten myself into here?" The book was set in present day. At first as I was trying to get into it I was seriously thinking that I had made a big mistake in reading it as it wasn't what I thought it was, but as I kept reading a page here and there, I was hooked! She has done quite a lot of research in the world of fairy's and brought them out of their hiding places and given them voice. She presents the good and the bad world of fairy's and I'm not just talking about the cutsie, little things that Pixies are known for. She has created a world of malicious, power hungry, conniving intent. There's a touch of romance in the story as well as a decision that has to be made between who the protagonist will choose between. The book is a battle between the world of the Fairies and the world of the mortal. Marr has a second book called "Ink Exchange" that I now have up on my queue as the next book to be sent to me from my book site. I am also looking for some of the copies of the books that she has used for her research that is mentioned inthe book. Like I said, I am hooked! DCMerkle

I'll have to check her out! I like the Merry Gentry fairy series that Laurell K. Hamilton writes.
