Just woudering about current parents | | With the current economy, do you think it's going to take a little longer to have an empty nest? (all children moved out) or do you expect some to move back in? I don't see kids (young adults) as eager to get out as soon as the did years ago. My thing is you finish high school, go to college or get a full time JOB so you can get your own place. If I let hubby have his way, he'd move all children back here...forever.

I am not looking for a time when my house will be empty of the chatter, noise and chaos of the children lol . I don't actually think children are going to stay with their parents longer though even though the economy prices are higher today then they were years ago only for the simple reason, if you think back to when you were a teenager, it was a big thing to get out of the home and do things your own way, to be able to prove that you could do it on your own, that you were independent and could do the same job as your parents if not better . That is just the way the majority of young adults will view things . They want to prove to not only themselves but to their parents as well, that they can manage . You will always find some children that are quite content to remain at home but for the most part the independence part of you will kick in and they will want to spread their own wings and move on . My son says he is never moving out and that if he does he is moving to our shed that he will turn into his own house:) He is only 13 and I am sure his views will change when he is older, not to mention he will realzie how unrealistic it would be to turn a shed into a house lol . But should he wish to remain at home forever, that would not bother me in the least . Not sure how his dad would feel as he can't wait til the day when we have the house to just ourselves lol:)

MZKUMA (298) | 1 year ago | LOL@ like my hubby. And I'm like yours. Like the Amityville horror entity....GET. OUUTT! lol. My daughter knows the door is open if she ever needs to come home. She left at 19 and will be 33 this month. She'd only asked for money 3 times and I hurried and sent it because she never asks for anything. Thanks for you response.

| | 2. ellie333 (6791) | 1 year ago | Hi Mzhuma, My two eldest have already moved out really, only the on at uni may make a return once that ends in two years time, but both are fairly independent girls and I have taught them from a young age to provide for themselves by starting young earning pocket money for chores. It has been difficult to get on the property ladder for years and in fact it may even benefit them with the house prices dropping as they are. It is hard for people trying to sell properties at the moment and one of my daughters boyfriends was having a house built abroad but rather than continue has forfireted the deposit instead so it is affecting everybody. My weekly shop has increased by about a third and that is wioth me trying to buy more economical brands. I agree a lot of children are staying at home until well into their twenties. I left as soon as I left school. Different generation I suppose too. Ellie:D

MZKUMA (298) | 1 year ago | I left home after high school. I maintained well if I spent my money wisely. Young people today would have it hard making minimum wage. Matter of fact, jobs are so scarce that older adults are accepting minimum wage job just to have something coming in.
