Being respected by the users is the reward i guess

I think the reward of being a moderator is that every one treats you with respect.

There are no real rewards other than helping Jagex enforce the rules. Your just a lowly beat cop.

There is no real reward... However you get to clean the streets of people breaking the rules so I guess you make your own reward (a better community).

I say being a mod is a very responsible job and the reward is having
the privlage to enforce the rules of runescape
and make runescape a better commuinity game.

Being an in-game moderator gets you nothing but a silver crown next to your name, a separate section of the forums to post in, and a huge hassle.

I was an in-game moderator for a few months back in 2005, before giving them my resignation. I didn't expect any more respect from people than I had received previously. What I didn't expect was being insulted as soon as I hit enter on my keyboard, and the silver crown was revealed in the chat box. It got to the point where I couldn't chat in public without being hounded. For me, the biggest benefit was being able to immediately silence the website advertisers and scammers. It wasn't worth it to me, so I gave it up to go back to being able to enjoy the game.

It's definitely not for everyone. There are those who love being a moderator, and don't let it interfere with their enjoyment of the game. Unfortunately, the other players don't make that easy.
