Is our National Guard being used properly?  | |  I watched an excellent report on Bill Moyer's Journal today about the improper use of our National Guard troops for purposes other than which they were intended. The report detailed how and why the National Guard was created for the express purpose of assisting in emergencies from state to state. This includes events such as natural disasters, civil disobedience, etc. It is common knowledge that the Guard has been deployed constantly since the outbreak of the Iraqi war. Do you think this qualifies as a misguided use of our National Guard? The facts were brought home during the Hurricane Katrina disaster when it was discovered that there was a shortage of available troops here at home.

| | | | | | 1.  avranesjr (771) | 1 year ago |  They're the NATIONAL Guard, not the INTERNATIONAL Guard. We should have finished the job in Afghanistan (remember Usama bin Laden?) first. That way we would not have had to use National Guard troops constantly. Katrina is just one of many circumstances where the lack of availability of National Guards troops was sorrowfully evident. But L'il Georgie got bored w/Afghanistan, and the neo-cons talked him into an invasion of Saddam-land out of vengeance; Saddam had threatened Poppy Bush one time after he thankfully lost his re-election bid when he visited Kuwait.

The present administration has pretty much done whatever it sees fit to do in any given situation, regardless of what the people would want.
