What do you consider "Best Available" seating at a concert?

My husband and I love to go see Trans Siberian Orchestra. I think I've seen them 4 of the last 6 years they've been in our area. Well, the tickets for DC just went on sale Monday, and the pre-sale through the TSO fan site was last week.
We first tried to get something last week, but the "Best Available" seats were terrible. They were very close to the stage, but either on the floor or to the left or right. On the floor is bad because they use a lot of fog so you don't see a whole lot, and you're looking almost straight up the whole night. To the sides, up close especially, is not good because you're sitting at an angle with your neck crained all night.
For me, "Best Available" is straight back from the stage, about 2 rows up. I can see everything. It used to be that you could pick the area you want to sit in on-line, but now you don't have a choice. We always have to call Ticketmaster to get our seats so we can get what we want.
What's your "Best Available" seats when you go to a concert?

Hi reinydawn, hmmm... Whenever I want to get the best seats, I usually try to have them reserved earlier and we can actually choose which seats to get (depending on the availability) We always try to get the middle aisle. The one that is directly facing the artists. Plus I try to get the front row seats. If not, the seats that are available there.

I don't like very front row, I like to be off the floor. But, facing straight on is definitely the way to go!

Facing straight definitely. If the seats are at the side, I'll forever have a crick in my neck... Left or right.. depending where the seat is located. haha.
