| | You made a good point that I forgot about when I posted below. I bought the extended two year warranty when I bought my laptop. I figured if I was going to invest the money I did in this thing I should be as well covered as possible. | | | |

| | I may not be the right person to answer your question because I only bought my Dell Inspiron this past Saturday but so far I like it a lot. I've even gotten used to the touch pad...but I am going to buy a wireless mouse this weekend to use on the PTC sites I go to. I had also purchased one of those laptop fans that you put on your lap, under the laptop but I've been giving this one a real workout in the evenings and it hasn't gotten hot, even under battery power, so I don't think I'll be needing that. The screen has very good resolution, it's fast and Windows Vista seems to be working better than I remember from a year or so ago. | | | | | | |

| | I gotta say that hp's designer line is awesomely stylish, but i haven't used one. Although, i have used dells and they are pretty good. Their laptop line, more specifically the "XPS", is the best one for me in looks and performance. But if your looking for best bang for the buck then you should but the inspirons which are their mainline. Anyways good luck and buy a nice one =) | | | | | | |

| | Well, I just bought a new laptop to replace an HP one. I bought a Fujitsu, which I am very happy with. Anyway, my biggest problem with HP (the one I bought previously) was all the extra programs that came with it. Now I know you can basically customize the laptop so I don't know if that would be an annoyance for you. As far as deciding between the two brands, I would actually make a decision as to what you get for your money and decide what you will be using the laptop for. I just helped my mother-in-law pick out a laptop to replace her very outdated Dell. Well, she ended up getting a Toshiba. Things we looked at were processor type (she is into photography), battery life, the ports available on it, ten key (she uses it for finances), etc... However, when it comes down to it, you will be using it so I would also personally try out your choices for comfortability, as far as typing. Good Luck!! | | | | | | |

| | I have friends that use both HP and Dell. Both are really good brands but I suggest Dell. My friends have had a lot of problems with their HP laptops. One example, my friend has an HP laptop and then one day, he turned on his laptop and there a big red line down the screen. He didn't drop it or anything. He just turned it on. Luckily, it was still under warranty. I haven't heard a complaint from my friends who use Dell laptops. | | | | | | |

| | I might get a HP laptop for myself. It really depends on what you are going to use the laptop for. If you just want to keep music files and documents on there than you don't need a higher priced computer. And that way you can install more memory is necessary at a lower cost. However, if you want one for playing intricate games that involves a lot of space, you will need something better suited for your needs. I think gaming HP's are good from what I've read. | | | | | | |
