Today is 9/11/08. Do you remember where you were on that
tragic day of 9/11/01? I'm a New Yorker and I live only
45 minutes away from where the Twin Towers stood and I
remember it only too well. Would you care to share your
thoughts and prayers on this day or rememberances?

Hi Opal26.
What a devastating day that was. Yes, I was helping out a testing service in their offices in Bloomington-Normal, IL that morning and the supervisor said that a plane just flew in to one of the Twin Towers. I was shocked. Then about 15 minutes later, she came running over and said that there had been another plane incident. She kept the radio on and we were trying to make sense of it. We were both confused. I left there about 1 or 2 p.m. and went home. The video of the plane flying into the towers was all over the TV.
I have been thinking about the victims and survivors of these horrific events all day today. My thoughts are with all the survivors.

I remember very well. I think most people do. I was out at a stream catching crayfish (crawdads). I use them as bait for fishing. I was enjoying the morning; it was pleasantly warm and the sun was shining. I had the place to myself and caught a bunch of crayfish.
Once I got back to my car and turned it on, I heard the news on the radio. It sounded like something out of a sci-fi horror movie, like War of the Worlds! I couldn't believe I was hearing what I was hearing!
I couldn't wait to get home to turn on the TV. I got there just in time to see the airplane crash into the second tower. I don't think I even breathed for a half-hour! I was glued to that TV set, still not believing what I was seeing.
I lived in Maryland about 20 miles outside of Washington, D.C., so the Pentagon wasn't that far away. The crash in Pennsylvania wasn't that far away, either. It was terrifying!
I cried. I'm not typically a crier, but I cried. My brain didn't want to work right. I honestly couldn't move from the TV set! I couldn't eat, I couldn't even stand up for quite some time afterwards. I was more upset for the people who were there, actually being physically affected by this; for the people who were killed or injured; for their families. I wanted to help, but I didn't know how.
I still can't quite put my feelings into words, even after 7 years!

I think your reaction was pretty much the same as most
people. I remember getting a ride home with one of my
co-workers and being totally terrified. As soon as I
got home I turned on the tv and like you I couldn't
move. I just sat there watching what was going on
in the city 40 minutes away from where I live. I am
still uneasy today remembering...

I was at home watching the the Today show when this happened and I stayed in front of the TV. I am sure my jaw was dropped and my mouth wide opened watching in awe and not believing what I was watching before my eyes. It was so heart breaking. I did watch it for days and weeks.....as long as they were airing it on TV. My heart at the time and still to this day goes out to all family and friends for those who were taken from them or who were left with injuries both inside and outside their body.

I am really sad about this incident- it's really very sad that human has become the reason of destruction of humanity itself. This day will always mark the step towards human destruction. I pray that this never happens again and that we start valuing human life.

Hi Opal26,
As long as I live I will never forget that day, I was doing my house work and had the television and the news were on I saw the the second plane and at frist I thought they were showing a film traler but then I saw all the people in the tower hanging out of the windows and I knew there were no chance for them as the towers fell, I had nightmares for weeks and there was a lump at the bottom of my stomach. I will never forget and it must have been so awful for you too.

I was at work (as a manager of Dollar General) and was in the stock room getting ready for the day. I remember hearing something on the radio and I thought that they said that a plane had hit the Pentagon. I remember thinking that I had heard wrong as I was sure that there was not a possible way that our Pentagon had been hit by a plane. I continued on with my day. One of my cashiers come in and I asked is she had heard anything and she said no.
About 10 minutes later, I heard another report on the radio about the towers being hit and that they assumed it was some sort of attack. I made a couple of phone calls and checked on my kids who were with my mother in law as they were sick. I called my husband who worked for our local utility office and he told me all of the details that he knew and advised me to have my cell phone with me as we didn't know what else would happen. I didn't have it on me so I went home ( about 3 minutes from work) to get it and turned the tv on. I stood and cried when I seen the panic of people leaving from the area and seen what had happened. Right as I was leaving, I seen the tower fall and I knew that life would be changed forever as these terrorists had hit a nerve that Americans would not stand by and do nothing about. Innocent people killed, our financial world at a standstill, and our security trust broken. I wondered what else would happen and how many more planes had been hijacked.

Hi Opal, I am so sorry I missed this dicussion yesterday but I am here now and yes I did in fact spare a thought and said some prayers for the victims and their families yesterday and remember it so very well as here in the UK I was just about to go and collect my younger daughter from her middle school in the next own and it came on the TV and I was just totally shocked and stunned by the images I saw. I thought it was a film and not reality but once the realisation dawned on what was happening I felt a chill go through me and felt sick at what had happened. Living in New York yourself must make it even more difficult to bear even all these years later. Big hugs. Ellie :D

Honestly, I was at home sleeping when it happened. My phone kept ringing and I didn't feel like getting up. Finally, I answered the phone and it was my fiance (now husband) calling to tell me to turn on the news. He was worried because they were talking about closing down state borders that day and at the time, he worked across the Kentucky/Indiana border and wasn't sure if he would be able to come home. I had to go to work that day. I worked at a grocery store. Nobody else showed up, so I had to work a register by myself for 8 hours with no break. Everyone was freaking out and stocking up on water and canned goods, so I had a line a mile long. It was definitely a crazy day.

Hi Sweetie,
Wow, it must have been even more over whelming for you being so close. I will never forget where I was. I was in the hospital waiting to go into the OR to have a pacemaker implant. Just one month before that I had open heart surgery to repair my Mitral valve. Unfortunately it didn't hold and 2 years later they had to do it again to replace the valve. Three months ago, I had to have my pacemaker replaced.
As I watched the planes hit the Towers I felt like most other people so far away from it, that it wasn't real. But it was so real that we were all in a state of shock. It without a doubt took my mind off myself.
Thanks for posting this very important day which has had devastating impact on all our lives. I'm glad we are all here to share this.xoxoxo

It doesn't matter mate if you are a yankee. We Indians are suffering terrorism for so many years now. After all we both are now sailing in the same boat. Let's hope this nuisance gets over pretty soon. May Lord save us all.
