Do You Have Pet Alert Decals?  email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 3 out of 1,571 in animals 4 years ago

I had started a discussion about how a fireman rescued a cat from a fire and gave it mouth to mouth resuscitation and saved its life.

But I'm just wondering here. How many of you who DO have pets have some kind of pet alert decal in the event that you are away from home and god-forbid a fire broke out in your home...would firemen know you had pets inside your home? Also, do you have some kind of card to carry that can alert someone that you have pets at home should you be in an accident?

I realize it's not very optimistic or positive things to think about, but if you have pets, one should make some kind of alert system known so if some disaster was to occur that your pets could be rescued.

Now there are some sites where you can buy such alert decals that one can stick on your windows... One such place is here

http://www.romyrpetsuppli...

One can also go to the ASPCA website and get FREE stickers here. I just signed up myself for these.

http://www.aspca.org/site...

Technically speaking I suppose one can even print up these alerts oneself and at least carry them around with them...maybe even stick not only on the windows but door as well.

I know they have "Tot Finder" decals that people can get for free at any firehouse so the firefighters know there are children on the premises. I did not know they had them for pets too. Good idea.

I managed to print up those decals just now myself..I can stick them up with some clear mailing tape to the windows.

I have one on the front door and one at the back door. Unfortunately I recently had to change the numbers because my beautiful cat and dog both passed away. cry

However, I definitely recommend ALL pet owners have these if they truly care for their pets!

As for the alert card, no, but that's only because if something were to happen, those that would be notified know of my pets, so they are taken care of.

A great discussion topic, pyewacket! thumbup

That's really responsible of you! You clearly love your pets, so it's great you have taken all precautions to ensure they will be taken care of.

Hi pye,

Yes! what a fantastic idea and should really work, all too often pets dies in this sort of things as the recueers don't know if there are any pets in the house so yes I do think its a good idea.

I sure do!! I have them on both front and back doors as well as the front window. After going through 5 fires in my life and an almost 6th one, I can't be too careful over my fur babies! I'm constantly worried about them when I'm away from home especially during a storm for they get so worked up over the thunder sounds. Like right now, our a/c isn't working and we're in the works of getting the insurance company to pay for it to be repaired and tomorrow I have to sit with my mom while hubby goes with my dad on his appointment for his eyes, I'll be worried about my cats because it'll be hot inside but the windows will be open and knowing they have a kitty door in two of the windows, I'm sure they'll be fine but I'll worry about them nonetheless. I wouldn't be much of a animal lover if I didn't worry.

Thank you Pye for a very thoughtful discussion, as I would never of thought to get some type of decals or a card to carry with you, as I'm away at my job for the whole weekend and must leave my three pets home alone, and I just recently had an incident that I will be doing a discussion on, and I was home at the time. Thank you and I will see about getting a decal for my windows.

Like I said I ordered those free decals from the ASPCA site, and I was able to manage printing up those red ones like in the photo I include here

I have or at least had one on the window by the front door. I would need to update it so they know how many cats to look for.

Hey pye, I just ordered one from the ASPCA. I had one sent
to me, but I never stuck it on the door and don't know
what I did with it so I ordered another one. This time
I will make sure to put it right on the front door. I do
worry about something happening and not being here for
my babies. They are the most important thing to me and
if anything ever happened to them I don't know what I
would do. I just can't go through losing any more of my
babies. If anything ever did happen to me I don't know
who would take them. I have asked two of my friends but
neither are really in the position to taken them and I
really need to make sure that if necessary they will be
taken care of by someone who I trust. I'm going to have
to think about it and have someone commit to this and it
isn't going to be easy. My girlfriend who got them for
me already has 2 cats and she is my first choice.

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 3 out of 1,571 in animals  4 years ago

Yup, I signed up last night to get the freebie sticker from ASPCA. In the meantime I was able to print up some of those red-colored ones like in the photo I have with this discussion. I once talked with one of my pet rescuer friends and she said she would gladly take my two kitties if anything happened to me

Yep, I have both alert stickers on my windows to my apartment and a card in my wallet with someone to contact to take care of my pets should something happen to me. My kitties are my children and I want them to be taken care of should any kind of situation arise.

Thanks for bringing this issue since I did not know that such products exist. A pet alert would sure save a lot of animals lives. Cat/Dogs lives can be saved to a simple sticker on a window somewhere displayed to alert firemen that there are animals inside the house.

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 3 out of 1,571 in animals  4 years ago

Yes it really is such a simple thing to do and I think every pet owner should have these alerts

I had made my own a few years back, before we moved into our new house. I used those Avery self-stick address labels you can get at any office supply place, but after so many years being subjected to heat, the darn things just wouldn't come off the doors and windows without tearing, so though I just ordered one from the ASPCA, I have a piece of paper hung up just about every where imaginable stating how many cats and dogs I have inside. Outside animals not to worried about since they can easily get far enough away that they'd be safe from the flames, if a fire should break out within my home.

myLot reputation of 98/100. pyewacket (12221)   ranked 3 out of 1,571 in animals  4 years ago

I was able to print up those red pet alert things...I plan to put them on my windows

I tend to be a Jasc Paint Shop Pro 9 addict, so basically every chance I get to use, I basically pounce on it. I've just been so busy with so many things lately, that I just don't know if I'm coming or going hardly anymore.
