| | Well, where should we begin? I like to think the theme is the most important part of planning a good party. Yes, it is a Halloween party, but it still helps to have a theme for even a Halloween party. Why have a theme? Because Parties based on a particular theme are much easier to plan! The theme you select will give you many ideas on what to actually do at the party itself. It will also tell your party goers how to dress. It will also help you to decided what activities you are going to have at your party and what you will need to have at the party. | | | | | | | My Rural Mommy Join me for parenting advice, money saving tips and more. www.myruralmommy.com | add comment | | | |

| | Halloween parties are great. I love the different costumes that everyone picks out. My husband likes to have a few masks around the house and every once in a while he'll scare the crap out of use by hiding by a corner or in a closet or something like that. I am planning on having a Halloween Party this year, but don't know all of the ideas that could be available. I would love to hear of your ideas, i could definately use some. Right now i'm lost on decorations. I like decorations that are very origional and man made, instead of reproduced, kind of like crafts and things like that. Let me know. Great discussion. | | | | | | | Nocturnica (131)

| | Not weird at all, I like that too. Yes, I have had a few Halloween parties in my time. It is my favorite season and favorite holiday, so I party up while i can, he he OK, for the Masquerade Ball, here is what I would do if I was giving that party... Invitations: Print these (or have them printed) on paper that has been treated to look like aged paper. You can seal them with a faux wax seal (or the real thing, if that is an option) and tri-fold them like an old fashioned letter. For the font (or text) of the invitation, use an ornate script type font, something that fits with your themes time period. The wording should be very formal Make note in the invitation that this will be a formal occasion and that Colonial style or 18th Century dress is required. Invitation Example: Mr and Mrs _________ cordially invite you to celebrate All Hallows Eve with us Date Time Location (You should also let them know if they can bring guest along to the party with them) RSVP requested Mr and Mrs _________ will greet each guest at the front doors. Atmosphere: Light a few candles, and read several short stories by Edgar Allen Poe. Have the servants fill guest goblets with wine or cider, while everyone gathers for a ghost story or two. Dressing Attire: Colonial style American or 18th Century dress and a masquerade mask Parking: Make sure that you have plenty of room for parking for the amount of guest you have coming to your party Have a servant (valet) park guest cars Decorations: 18th century decor electric light chandelier turned down low silver candle sticks with white candles on each table (providing the only light). Cobwebs Cover your furniture with white cloth. Metallic silver, orange and black ribbon streamers Metallic silver, orange and black confetti Bats hanging from the ceiling Spiders hanging from the ceiling Jack O'Lanterns in every room Fog rolling across the floor (you can use a fog machine for this) Halloween lights Make swags of silver, orange and black cloth for the top of the windows Luminaries along the front walkway and/or driveway. Add mini White christmas lights along the staircase rail (if you have one) Tables and Centerpieces: The tables can be arranged around a dance floor. Cover your tables in Black damask table cloths Drape a second cloth over the first in orange damask Silver plates and matching goblets Silverware Orange damask napkins Set up a buffet table to match your dining tables Use silver trays and bowls for the food Metallic silver, orange and black confetti scattered over the table cloths Center Pieces: Metallic silver, orange and black votive candles in fancy silver holders Silver candelbras with orange and black candles Seating Cards: Metallic silver, orange and black masquerade mask with handles, each guest names on them. Or Make small scrolls, with each guests name on the outside, tie them with a thin silveer ribbon Graveyard: Set up a family cemetary, off to the side, where the guest can see it upon arrival. Give your graveyard a spooky look Tips for the spooky look... camo netting vines moss head stones alot of fog fresh grave with today's date spiders cobwebs rats snakes skeleton hands crawling from graves ghouls crawling around ghost floating around empty grave a grave robber or two, leaving with casket having a leafless tree in this area makes it even better blue lighting strobe lights spooky graveyard sounds Music: A string quartet plays 18th century music on authenic instruments with a few halloween songs added in every once in a while Dancing: Dancing to the 18th century music being played by the musicians Ballroom dancing to the string quartet. Activities: Scary stroy telling contest Costume contest Make a tombstone contest - gray paper, markers, scissors, and maybe evfen a few silk flowers. All you can Decorate and Eat cookies - Before the party begins, bakc cookies in different Halloween shapes. Place frosting, M&M's, dots, sprinkles, candies... on a table and let the decorating begin. Make a mask - Set up a table of plain mask that you guest can decorate. Feathers, sequins, beads, craft paper, and a glue stick. You may want to use your imagination and make one for an example, use it as a table centerpiece for that table. Mask with handles are cool for this project. Films: If there is time, any horro film will be fine Photographs: Have a professional photographer take party photos Set up a special place for keepsake photos to be taken Gt double prints, or make copies for each gues mini scrapbook Menu: Grilled turkey legs Meat tartlets Twiced baked potatoes with sour cream, cheddar cheese and chives French bread Sweet bread Cubed cheese Spinach dip Roasted pumpkin seeds Hot cider Punch Adults Only: Mulled and regular Sebastiani wine Desserts: Molded geletin, with a brain mold from Jello Fancy candies in Halloween colors, such as black and orange mints Party Favors/Prizes: A mini scrapbook (in the theme of the party) can be mailed to your guest in a week or so. Treat bags are always a nice touch Seating cards from the tables Candles amoung anything else from the party decorations So, that is what I have done for my Masquerade Balls, I hope that helps with your party, if that is the theme you choose to go with! | | | | | | | Family Lawyers Find Custody & Family Lawyers & yellowpages.com | add comment | | | |
