why is it so damned important to have so much stuff on a phone  

I disagree. I find time for my friends and I watch t.v. I don't think its different from before and if you have friends like this then its just their personality to be easily distracted... they'll be back when they are bored. I just love the fact that I can browse the internet from anywhere... its uber cool. I can't wait to get an iphone that way I can message here on mylot and be at work =D don't tell my boss tho =[

I know what you mean. I have an ipod so why would I need a pnone that plays music? Most people have MP3 players, cameras, etc and they still pay more for a phone that has those things. Then, there are the phones that do so much stuff that they turn out to be pretty crappy phones. I hate iphones. I think it was better when phones were just phones.

It's handy. so that you wont have to walk miles and miles just to look for a phone line. well, they want to accessories their cellphones. giving importance to their possession.

When you're bored, it would be nice to have a device that would allow you to watch movies or listen to music. I'm pretty sure that's what the cellphone is becoming. It's an all-in-one device that will lessen the amount of things you have to carry. Another thing, what if for example my friend is in another place far away from where I am, doesn't the IM on the phone actually bring us closer together?

Well... I do have a blackberry & I pretty much use all the features on this phone, may be not the way most do but I do... I use this phone for work as well & I'm not usually tied down to a computer or stuck in an office where I have an access to email all the time... Also, being able to take a picture of site & being able to communicate that back & forth without having to carry a expensive and/or bulky laptop is a plus as well... And also mp3 player being not solely for music, but also capable of recording documents, like verbal agreements between clients & being able to send it to my computer for later storage purpose is really good as well... All these capability allow me to travel without portable recorder, camera, laptop & cell. phone really cuts down on my set up time... Click few buttons on my cell. phone allows me to take care of multiple things with just one item... It all depends on who & how & for what the cell. phone is used for that makes a huge difference...

Sure the point of having a cellphone it to make and receive calls but you never know when you'll need the rest of the features. Calculators come in handy. My phone is equipped with dictionary and it serves me very well since i don't speak english as my primary language. Television and music on your phone comes in handy too when you have long trips and got nothing to do.
