how to visit friends in your country

i am a chinese ,i feel visiting friends and neighbors is a custom that is universal people of all countries enjoy socilizing this way ,in our country ,when we visit a friend's home for the first time ,we bring flowers ,a bottle of wine is another gift that is also shared when visiting friends in China, and you ,my friends ,in your country how to visit friends in general? hoping to share with you.

well... in singapore (i'm a singaporean chinese) we do rather the same thing. we dont feel that it is nice to come to someone's house without any gifts. so we usually bring some fruits, or maybe some packets of chips (if thats my uncle, who LOVES junkfood...lol...) and we ususally dress rather nicely, to show respect to the host... interesting discussion...
