Is DARK KNIGHT a GR8 movie or is it just a hype?

dude.. i havnt been able to watch the dark knight movie because of my exams. some of my friends watched it and said it was not much of a movie... but my best friend watched it last week and he has been talking about the joker ever since.. i am in a dilemma... help me out here... should i go and watch it...
