duvets verus sheets and blankets

Awww I remember those days of sheets and blankets. It's a lovely thought but I certainly wouldn't go back to it all, I can't imagine all that washing, 2 sheets per bed 8 sheets in all and 4 blankets! Naaa it's ok thanks I will stick with my duvet! I do have some blankets though, well they are more like fleeces I suppose and they dry quickly when I wash them. I have one that is always over the settee if ever I am downstairs and I get cold watching tv and I have a spare one. My boys each have one too with Spiderman on it, though the youngest has Shrek. Must dig them out actually, ready for the winter!

I do not care for duvets. When I lived in Germany a duvet was always used on beds. Now I cannot imagine sleeping withour my sheets, blanket(s) and comforter or quilt.

Duvets are definitely for me! I think that they tend to keep you warmer especially if you go for the highest tog available which I think is about 15 togs! Electric blankets are nice too but I think you can become too hot when you use those. I definitely would not resort to sheets and blankets again. I love duvets or quilts and think that they are very comfortable. I experience pleasant dreams when I am under a quilt! Sweet dreams. Andrew

I used always use sheets and blankets but then I bought two duvets - one for summer and one for winter...they are different togs. I think after using the duvets that I would never go back to using blankets as I can't get use to the weight of them again. I kept the blankets as they come in handy for the beds when I have overnight visitors.

My husband and I always prefer duvets to sheets and blankets. We feel they are wamer, and there are a lot less things to get tangled up in, at night. I used sheets and blankets until I stayed in Denmark for a time, and every bed I slept in had a duvet. I got used to them, and when I returned to Canada I went out and bought one.

I love the sheets and blankets Anne, but I really think those duvets keep a person warmer..I dunno just my preference is the sheets and blankies as always. I love the smell of them LOL xooxox Hugs

I don't think i have ever really had sheets and blankets but i think i would prefer a duvet regardless, i like to wrap it all the way around me and snuggle up really warm like a caterpilla!! - like a sausage roll and i am the meat lol (does anyone else remember that by the way?!?!) xxx

I tend to prefer sheets and blankets. My duvet tends to be too warm most of the time. With sheets and blankets it is at least possible to use the good old layering system - too cold, add more, too warm, take some off. Hope you find a happy medium.

That is a hard one, as I remember being a child and staying over at my grandparents who had blankets on the beds. That was so cozy and warm, in fact it was that warm that I used to end up covered in heatlumps!

I have a duvet on my bed and it is a thick tog, yet I still get cold at night. I wrap up in a little blanket sometimes and that is really warm. So I reckon that it is probably blankets.

Sheets and blankets are from the past and nowadays I have a duvet on my bed. In Australia I learned a duvet is called a doona. I think an electric blanket is warm but I prefer to go to bed with a hot water bottle when it is cold. Duvets come in tog 4.5 for summer, tog 9 for spring, tog 10.5 for autumn and tog 13.5 or 15 for winter. In a tropical country just a sheet can be enough for me. It keeps me cool yet covered. A duvet just goes on a bed but sheets and blankets are usually tucked in leading a feeling of restriction is moving. I feel happier using a duvet with one pillow under my head. A high tog duvet is warmer than any blanket I think. A layer of warm blankets would be as warm a a high tog duvet.
