Shopping for a motorcycle, any suggestions?

So i've been once again shopping for a motorcycle online at like craigslist or ebay because i'm looking for a cheaper used motorcycle. I came upon a website that hosts car and motorcycle auctions and was curious if anyone has ever been to an auction before that was worth it? Do you need a auction license or a dealer's license or anything? And finally just curious if you could walk away with a decent motorcycle for a good price?
