Well, more or less after the child says some Hebrew from the Torah, (The books of Moses), they have a big party with food and music and dancing..They are a lot of fun, I went to my neighbors daughters Bat Mitzvah, which is the same, except for girls..

Its not meant to be a worldly kind of thing of partying it up. Its the age of accountability not legally of course but spiritually speaking form that day forward you are saying that you know what God wants out of you and expects.
