How to deal with an autistic child?

In the public community I live, there is a child to be perplexed by infantile autism. When he was about 3 years old, her mother found he can not speak or respond to others. After a comprehensive physical examination, doctors confirmed he suffers with infantile autism. Years gone by, the child grow up a big kid and things continue. Now the family seem give up the boy and make up their mind to bear a second child (as everyone knows, one family can only have one child in China). That means, the closest people in his life abandon the boy.
I know little about infantile autism, but wonder if this is the only way to choose for such situation. Does anyone have similar experience and how do you deal with the child?

That is very sad. I could not imagine giving up my autistic child. How anyone could do that and then want to have another baby is beyond me. And how do they even know that their next child, if they do succeed in conceiving, won't be autistic as well? What would they do then? Keep giving up their autistic children until they finally have a normal one?

I can not agree more. although they do not really abandon the boy and just let him be, it's a great hurt in mind. and I also worry about the same situation happened on the second baby. in fact, every child is the gift from God, the truth is that his parents can not accept it and face it bravely.
thank you for response and all the best!

If the parents can't cope with their childs Autism, then they just were not ready to be parents.
They don't have what it takes to be loving parents && shouldn't be allowed to try again.
It's a shame because you are so very right about children, all children being a gift from God.
