Painting is one of my interests. The Chinese painting style is totally different than the western style. The Chinese painting focus on the "empty" style. The drawing seems to be simple and not so vivid. However, it has another feeling that is hard for me to explain. I like this style. However, if I draw my picture like that, it'll be ugly because it needs some time to master how to paint it. The western painting style seems to be full. All the picture will be painted, including the background. Although these two styles are opposite, but I appreciate to them both.

I am into Van Gogh. He used bright vivid color. I love that. I like it when the color is so intense it jumps off the canvas and really touches me. Forgive me but I have only seen a few Japanese paintings, I haven't seen an Chinese.

Van Gogh 's Wheat Field with Crows - Van Gogh's Wheat Fields with Crows
I like Starry Night too. I love the color blue. My favorite Van Gogh is Wheat field with Crows. It has brilliant blue.

I really like Van Gogh's Starring Night. Perhaps I like the color of blue, so I am fascinated to that painting. I think at least you have seen one Chinese painting from the Beijing Olympic Opening Ceremony

Good afternoon, youless. Speaking of paintings, I am an amateur rather than an expert. But I love to appreciate paintings. I used to learn to draw and imitate as a kid. My interest in painting was somewhat strong, but as nobody trained me. I gave it up. It is a pity on my side. It is good to know that you know about painting. In fact, it is not only painting, but also you know many other lines of business. I cannot help thinking that youless is a Jack-of-all-trades. That is really cool. I would also like to be one with broad interest like youless. Keep it up and enjoy your day, youless.

I agree with you that the two styles are completely different. Perhaps you can use the Chinese influence in your paintings using the western style. That would be a nice combination.

Great discussion, youless. Painting is one of my interests as well. I love both styles of painting very much. Chinese painting is a lot more focussed on the negative space in a painting and I often feel that more can be expressed in the negative space than with actual brush strokes. IMO it takes more of a natural talent to be able to achieve such results, whereas western techniques could be eventually learned by anyone with a desire to learn them. Enjoy making your art!

And it's quite amazing that Chinese painting sometimes uses only one color (black ink) and it can finish a whole masterpiece.
