Do people go nuts over the skillcapes? |
|
Another day & I keep getting asked if I have any skill capes. I find the things ridiculous. I see so many players who literally BUY the cape that I have no respect for them. A skill cape you can get by simply standing in the G.E. buying supplies to work there & resell ( usually taking a gp loss ) isn't impressive, It's stupid. usually the people who do this neglect most of their other skills in the process. I prefer to have ALL my skills high, not just one!
How do you feel about the capes?

But yes, I agree that these skill capes are over valued, and they mean nothing if you only have one skill that's particularly high, and the rest are averaging to nothing. On the other hand, you have to admit that getting a skill to 99 is a difficult achievement for anyone, and not everyone has the patience and dedication to reach this landmark.

| Snoopielyn (38) | 1 year ago | The hardest part of raising any skill is the time consumed to do so. It's really nothing more than clicking, no matter what the skill is. I tend to like to do skills where I don't have to click as often, and can spend my time chatting. Others prefer skills that require more clicking and more concentration, such as runecrafting, where you're trudging back and forth from altar to bank to altar, wash, rinse, repeat.
It's all monotonous repeated clicking, but somehow, some clicking is more fun than others. Some people are very proud of their achievements, and of course there's nothing wrong with that. I don't look at my level 99 skills as achievements as much as I do the culmination of doing what I enjoy.

| 2. Snoopielyn (38) | 1 year ago | I've got mixed feelings on skill capes. I was excited about them when they came out, and there's one I have that I kept even though I'm now a non member for the time being.
I have 7 skills that are 99. My first 99, not surprisingly, was fletching. It's a very easy skill to level. However, I didn't get mine by buying supplies. I got it in conjunction with woodcutting, which is my favorite skill, still to this day. My second skill to reach 99, of course was woodcutting. I got both of those before skill capes had even been mentioned. I didn't get the 99s for any purpose other than they were skills I enjoyed doing. I did fletching to make more money off the logs I got while woodcutting. I then alched all those bows I made, which brought me to 99 magic. Even though I bought nature runes, since I am not a big fan of runecrafting, I made a nice amount of money. I did get 99 magic after skill capes were released, but I did not get it for the purpose of getting a skill cape.
My other level 99 skills are all combat related. They weren't done in any attempt to impress anyone, they simply happened in the course of playing the game the way I like to. For me, that's what it's about, playing the game the way you enjoy it.
I have found skill capes can be quite an annoyance. Even though I've gone nonmember, I left my woodcutting cape on my character. It's my favorite skill, and the level I am most proud of. I am constantly asked to do the emote for the cape, and what other skills I have that are 99. I have no doubt that it's simply a matter of a short time before I remove and drop the woodcutting cape to enjoy a less annoying environment.

|
| The_Rocket (75) | 1 year ago | I'd have thought that some people would be rather proud and happy to show off a woodcutting cape in a non-members world, but I guess not everyone would feel this way.
| |
|
|
| Snoopielyn (38) | 1 year ago | It's not the cape itself that is the annoyance, it's the reaction to the cape by other players. I could ignore them, but that's just not the way I am. I feel the need to say something, whether it's thanking them for their "nice wc cape" compliment or telling them to mind their own business when they tell me I need to get a life.
I get some personal satisfaction in having the cape, mainly because in my mind, it shows outwardly what I most enjoy in the game, which is woodcutting. It would be nice to not have it garner so much attention at times though.
| |
|
|
uath13 (3756) | 1 year ago | Much the way I play. I usually try to focus on my lowest skills 7 work from the bottom up but of course combat, wc & fletching are some of my highest.
| |
|
|
| Snoopielyn (38) | 1 year ago | I would like to work on my lowest skills at times, but often can't bring myself to do them until I'm in the mood to do them. I can't bring myself to spend time in a game to do an activity I don't enjoy. Even the skills I dislike, I enjoy at some point, but I rarely work on them until that time comes.
Even though I can gain nothing but ranks from woodcutting now, I still spend most of the time I'm logged into the game chopping away, trying my best not to be snippy at those asking me why I'm woodcutting when I've already got 99. I try to reply with a simple "Because I enjoy it."

Never played this game - doesn't sound like one I want to learn.
But the last Stephanie Plum novel by Janet Evanovich as some funny online gaming stuff in it.

4. 060157 (761) | 1 year ago | well, i gave a shot to get the fletching skill cape (i didnt buy the supplies, i had cut all the regular logs myself and had a great stock of willows before membership). i got my first ever membership and then i realized that continuously fletching logs was not only boring, but also would be a complete waste of a month of membership that i had subscribed for (i usually become a member in the summer vacations ONLY). and from then on i looked at the skill capers from a different angle lol.
ppl having multiple skills on 99 and getting the skill capes 'normally' is a different story but seriously, ppl who are just going for a skill cape (most probably a fletching or firemaking skill cape) by ignoring all other skills, well i dont really have the right words to describe them. such a feat would bore me to death.
i am a level 98 right now with pretty balanced skills. my combat skills are in the late 70s except for strength, that is at 83. fletching is at 80 (and it was 79 in the very first month of membership and just raised one level in later two memberships lol). the rest are in the late 60s and early 70s and i keep working on every skill time after time. the only skill that is lagging badly is rune-crafting on non-members and summoning on members.
i'd rather enjoy my time playing runescape than devoting myself to the tedious and boring task of getting a skill cape just for bragging rights. i don't see myself leveling any skill to 99 anytime soon.

uath13 (3756) | 1 year ago | Can't say as I blame you. With so many things you could be doing in your limited time standing there whitteling logs would be booring as hell. I prefer to multitask so I'm doing lots of things at once. I've managed to get all my levels between 93 & 70 usually trying to focus on the lower ones so they catch up to the others. So long as they don't introduce any new skills I should have everything in the 90s within a few months ( crosses fingers ).

5. ByblosFlare (153) | 1 year ago | Ofcorse people go nuts over skill capes, it takes time and patients to make such an atchivements, others might see it diffrently bit thats what i think. That is why people with skill capes are respected and all skill capes take time, even the easiets of skill capes are hard to achieve. Take cooking for instance, it is one of the easiest to reach, and ive reched it, but it took a lot of time, all i had to do was cook but i didnt get 99 coking over night, not even a week, it took more then 1 month, nearly 2. I know that your saying well other skill capes might take 4 months, or even 6 months, but it doesnt matter yo still have a skill cape and you worked hard for it. I think its worth the money to reach a 99, and there are people who go for 99 but all their other skills are really low, but those people dont reach the 99 because they think they can do it but they dont know how much effort goes into those months of cliking...clicking...and more clicking. I think skill capes are not over rated. Thats what the game is kind of about, ok now you get ALL you skills high, how far can you go..at the end you will end p with all of the skill capes so why not start now...there are 2 ways of getting everything to 99, one is to get them one by one and the other way is to get them all there at the sae time, by rasing all you skills to a certain level till they all reach 99.
anyways...Happy MyLotting!

6. gbeast95 (317) | 1 year ago | I like skillcapes really I'm trying to get a 99 runecrafting because it is the one skill that I will not lose money with and I think the emote looks pretty kewl.
| |
| |
|
|
uath13 (3756) | 1 year ago | Now that's a respectable skill cape. So long as your making the right runes you'll make money. Just don't buy the essence unless your making cosmics or better.

| Dontlivesowise (45) | 7 months ago | Hey gbeast.
99 Runecrafting, eh?
That sounds like a really, really good goal. Very seldomly do I see someone with a Runecrafting skill cape. It's going to be a hard task to accomplish, but remember; it's all for fun.
Don't feel like you have to do it, or else you will probably quit. Have fun in what you do, and take pride! (:

| 7. L3gAcy (3) | 1 year ago | The skillcapes when worn, will show ur achievement of getting a 99 skill which not everyone can do it. They show how dedicated you are to the game, and that you have the patience and determination. I feel that the skillcapes are pretty cool because of their emotes. I'm currently working on my ranged to 99 and its 88 atm.

uath13 (3756) | 1 year ago | 99 range...Now that's one that's seldom seen & actually a respectable cape. I just get tired of the constant hounding of people who more or less BUY a skill cape standing around in the GE saying " Why haven't you got one?". I don't have one because I actually play the game instead of standing here whitteling logs bought in the GE. Most of the people who ask that also only have 1 good skill all the rest ( the ones you actually have to do somewhere besides a bank & put some thought into getting ) are low. I'd prefer to be better all around in all my skills.

uath13 (3756) | 1 year ago | I can understand showing off. Just show off something that's impressive. Standing around whitteling on logs you bought from nonmembers in the GE isn't impressive.
If you can get the skill while standing in the GE I'm not going to be impressed by your cape.

|
uath13 (3756) | 1 year ago | That's another skill I see people wasting a lot of logs on. I got my 83 firemaking from burning shades on pyres in Morton. At least that's a respectable way of doing it. The R.S. highscore feature wasn't working last night so I couldn't check my rankings.

| 10. Dontlivesowise (45) | 7 months ago | I can hoenstly say, I got fletching by buying the logs, and buying the bowstrings. I'm not very proud of it. I recently just bought all of the logs needed to get level 99 firemaking, also.
I know the firemaking cape is pretty popular, one of the easiest to achieve. The reason I'm getting it, is because I'm in love with the emote.
Like, IN LOVE. Hahaha.
I also want 92 firemaking, so I can get that Adze, lol.
