I started wondering this today as it is starting to get cold in Pa. I started thinking do others work during the summer to heat in the winter or do they have gas, propane or what?
We heat by wood and that is why I was wondering if others do as we do and work all summer to heat their homes in the winter. We used to only have this small stove in the living room and the rest of the rooms were basically cold and some freezing in the winter. Last year we bought one of those outside wood stoves and the house is so nice in the winter now!
So how do you heat??

i have a gas central unit.wood stoves are nice & put out alot of heat but to be honest they put out too much heat for me. my dad & aunt both had them & it would be so hot there i couldn't breathe but they loved them.

We have an electric furnace but we installed the ventless gas heaters (2 of them) in our home 3 years ago.
We enjoy the gas heat better because electric just wont heat very well but with the gas prices being what they are, we are returning to electric this year.
My mother heats with wood and it is very warm in her living room but the bedrooms back through the house tend to stay a little too chilly. They installed some kind of fan on their wood burner this summer so I'm curious to see if it improves.

We tried the ventless gas heaters (3 of them) and the only room that it seemed to really help was our bathroom. I think it is because of living room and kitchen is so big so when that didnt work we decided to try this outside wood stove and it is I believe the best thing we have ever done.
I agree when we had the regular wood stove in our living room it didnt heat anything BUT that room. The bathroom was freezing as was our bedroom yet you couldnt stand being in the living room!

We use gas heat and it's horrible! I live in PA, too and it is getting cooler. The house stays nice and warm, but the gas bill sure can get out of control!

That is something I dont miss is the gas bills! We havent had one in a little over 13 years and Im thrilled about that. We run on electric totally other then wood to heat by. Truthfully this outside wood stove feels like gas heat thou thru the registers. Love it!
