Fed up with my three dogs! |
| |
| Ok, as some of you know I have three dogs. One is a german shepherd with some health problems, and the other two are chihauhaus. I adore my dogs and can't imagine life without them. BUT, I can't get them to stop making messes in the house! My shepherd is 7, the chi's are both 5. And they STILL will wet in the house and sometimes poo also. I am home 24/7 and they are let out frequently, especially after eating. But often the messes are at night when I'm asleep. I used to crate them at night, but got tired of having dog crates sitting around so quit doing that. I also get messes thruout the day though too. I try to catch the "signals" and make sure they go out, but its hard to watch three of them constantly. Do any of you have any great ideas or suggestions on how to stop this? Right now I have vinyl flooring so its easily cleaned. But, I am planning to move next spring to a house with carpet, and I can't imagine having this problem with carpet! Help??? | | | | | |

| | Hi Tess, well for starters I would delay carpet until this is resolved. I could understand this with a puppy but at ages 7 and 5 they should be well over this now. For starters I would buy a specialist product that totally eliminates the odour as they are inclined to go in the same spot as they have before and if you don't like crates confine them to one section of the house or even to the garden and only letting them in for love and fuss until they get it. It is only what I would do but then I have never had this problem. I am at present crate training my own puppy and he is as good as gold other than an odd accident through excitement. I hope someone manages to come up with a plan and that you can resolve this and get you carpet in the sping. Huggles. Ellie :D | | | | | | |

| | Thanks Ellie. Unfortunately leaving them outside isn't an option for me. For starters its very hot here, and the biting critters are bad. Plus, my complex doesn't allow dogs to be left outside unattended. I guess I'll have to go back to putting them in a crate at night. I hate that because they are ugly and take up alot of space. But I can't seem to get them trained otherwise. | | | |

| | That is where I am lucky Tess as I have my own enclosed yeard off of the kitchen so when out of crate he goes stright to the garden and I will let him have kitchen and garden until he needs to go into crate for the night and it isn't hot here either. I do so hope you get it sorted though. | | | |

| | How about a doggie door Tess...they can let themselves out then! No problem! I'd rather see that than the mess on the floor, and having to clean it up all the time...ugh! No way....get a doggie door!!! Kash | | | | | | |

| | Its a wonderful idea, except I have sneaky cats that I can't let out. LOL But, it has given me an idea. maybe out outside space that has a roof - with a doggy door to it? Hmmm that way if a cat DOES get out, I can catch it. Brilliant. LOL | | | |

| | Oh wow, they sure sound like a handful. I guess you find it difficult to control them because they are three and you are only one. I had a tough time with two pups around. I sent one of them away, and it is easier to manage Tina by myself. Seriously, I feel crating is the only solution to your problem. Or placing them in a yard, whichever suits you. :) Cheers and happy mylotting | | | | | | |

| | dog training - even at that age they can be housebroken - tho I'd probably have outside dogs - that's what I've got now. | | | | | | |

| | They can't be outside dogs I'm afraid. One has health issues, two are small chihuahuas. | | | |

| | I'm in Texas, they could be outside a good part of the time. But a trainer can get them housebroken, but you may, probably will, have to crate them. | | | |
