Ill effects of Cartillage tear?

I had a cartillage tear in my right knee many years ago. My knee used to get locked suddenlywhile walking and to straighten my leg Ihad to struggel and prss some muscles and only then would it straighten. i finally got it operated after about 3 years. The knew was ok for a few years, but now i often get a pain in that knee. Is this an effect of loss of carillage? Can the catrtillage be replaced?

im not sure but i have torn cartilliage in both my knees and i have the same problems.. they want to do surgery but i never heard of it actually helping anyone so i have faught getting it.. im sorry to hear it didnt work for you 
im sure as medical knowledge progresses they will figure out something.. you might wanna see a few specialist on it just in case one knows about a procedure that others dont..
