I walked to the store this morning and where the store is at there is only one way to go and some new people moved in about 3 blocks from my house and they have a huge german shepherd that is tied to a pole with no fence and he was going nuts when we walked by. My son was in his stroller. Anyway , we used to have a huge german shepherd and he broke everything that we ever tried to tie him up with and we finally had to start putting him into the horse stalls. This dog has such a horrible mean sounding growling bark. I might have to get some pepper spray or something.

That's why I don't take walks near homes when their dogs are out I will cross the road and walk on the other side just to avoid them. I don't like strange dogs I don't know so I stay away & remind the kids to never try to pet a dog you don't know.
My neighbor dog is very docile and he walks around by a few houses from time to time but he's really gentle and knows his boundrairies. I wish my did! *LOL*
A different neighbor has a Shepherd as well and this dog seems kinda nice but I've seen it growl at me when it roamed into my drive way once. My DD1 says oh it's a nice doggy, not IMO if it groweled at me for no reason and I was on my property! But the owner is like 80 and can hardly catch the thing when it's off it's chain. She's selling her house so whenever that happens that'll be a relief, including the fact of finding dog logs that don't belong to my dog on my property as well.

Talk to the neighbor if possible and get to know the dog. it is amazing how this might change....if you go to the neighbor and "meet and greet" the dog, he may be a perfectly sweet dog and is territorial, as many are, when tied up or confined. My two newfies are the sweetest dogs in the world but act absolutely dreadful when people with other dogs walk by their fence! Perhaps if you get to know the dog, and give a hot dog treat when you go by (with the owner's permission) he will look forward to your coming and even wag his tail and kiss you! HOWEVER : a word of caution: do NOT give the dog treats or anything like tht until you talk to your neighbor FIRST!
