Would you be your dog's side when she is delivering puppies?

I am curious to know how many of you will stay by your dog side and watching her delviering puppies? Recently my dogs just delivered 6 cute puppies and i was there to assist her. It's so amazing and excited when seeing the new born puppy being delivered one by one. Any of you have the same experience to share? I would love to read on that.

OH yes, I was there for my dog when she delivered her 10 puppies. One we (lucky my friends were with me) even had to rush to ER for a stitch because she had bit umbilical cord to close to body. and then she had one last puppy and it didn't come for hours. and I worked 3rd shift all night and had stayed up with her all day. and we even brought momma to vet- to verify that there was still one puppy -when she started to have a green discharge. but they said just wait a little longer and finally after midnight the last puppy was born (so he had a different birthday then all the other pups) and a few days later one became weak and we lost it. But I even had to sleep beside her on the floor for a couple of weeks because she would be very upset when I left her side. That was the longest 2 months of my life (raising puppies) I don't think I will do it again. I barely got any sleep until the puppies were in new homes( I kept 2 though, lol).

Ten puppies for a litter. That is a lot. I am having six puppies which very please to say that all of them are very healthy. It is a blessing. Yet, there are growing up now and running aroung the house and also making noise all the time when unable to see their mummy. I barely have good sleep now.

Congratulations to you too! Hope your daughter dog will go through a smooth labour. It was one week ago my daugher gave birth. I have this feeling that she was waiting for me from work to be by her side when she delivered. As I didn't know when she would due, what I did is just observe her extraodinary behavior. I have just bought a very big bucket for her delivery the very same day, never expect her to deliver so fast! I also washed the old rags that day for the purpose of her usage later. When the rags were still in the washing machines, there's the time she wanted to give birth. Arghh.. I was out of old rag for her. At the end, I have contributed one of my bedsheet for her. Kind a messy day for me! :)

My daughter has to work the weekend and her husband will be out of town, so my husband and I will be checking in on the mama every so often...she is a black lab and the father is a golden retriever...she is only 10 months old...the people who had her before weren't watching her close enough and she ended up getting pregnant..but things happen..My daughter has her now and we are excited to see the pups... This dog is a pup from a litter that were raised to be Service dogs for the disabled...Some of the pups are going back to the Agency to be raised to help people with disabilities... I will keep you posted on how many and all that good stuff...*smiles*

Yes I have pug's and she has had a litter and pug's have a very hard time giving birth sometimes so you have to watch them like an eagle when they are in labour to make sure it all goes well and nothing goes wrong! and we were very lucky that she didn't have any trouble and had all 5 pups with no problem but we had to cut the cord and break the sack and remove it for her because she has such a short nose it is hard for them to do that by themself as well, she went into like the first stage of labour at about 9pm at night and i sat with her all night and gee that was one long long night and at about 8.30 am the next morning she gave birth to the first pup and by 12.00noon she had had all the 5 of them with out any trouble so we were very happy with that as I would hate for anything to happen to her as she is our little baby and we love her just like one of the kids

Thank you for your sharing. I would like to share my experience timeline here too. 6.00 pm: Back from work, 6.45 pm: Done preparing dinner and my daughter dog was sitting next to me when I was having dinner, gave her some bones to chew, 7.15 pm: Done eating and clearing the table, 7.20 pm: daughter dog acted abnormally, jumped to my bed, scratched the bed, hid inside the blanket. I sensed something wrong, immediate I carried her into the newly bought big bucket with my bedsheet for her. 7.40 pm: contracted, first puppy born, 11.00 pm: the sixth and the last puppy born, 11.30 pm: helped her clean the puppies and herself, and changed a new clean cloth for her. In the midst of delivering, there was time the puppy cord was still attached and I went look for a scissor, luckily when I was back, my daughter dog had successfully bit it off by herself. The whole night she slept with her puppies and being very protective.I have a tired night too and got an early sleep.

I have not watched this but I think that I would. However, every dog I have owned has been male, so we have not had to worry about delivering of puppies.

Someday you should get a female dog. It's a wholesome experience to be able to stay with your pet during this precious moment of hers. The feeling of being upgraded from mummy to granny is awesome! This would remain my sweetest memory.

I have a male and a female dog. They are only small dogs. My female has had quite a few litters of pups. I have been there with her each and every time. I always make sure i know exactly when the big day will be. With dogs it's between 61 and 63 days. I mark it on the calandar and keep a very close eye on her when the time is near. I wouldn't miss it for the world. I like to make sure she feels safe and sucure, while delivering them. It's the most amazing thing in the world. She is getting on in age now, so i don't think she will be having to many more. It's something i will miss a great deal. It' one of the highs in my life.

I didn't really expect my doggie to be pregnant actually. It was a surprise! As the male dog isn't 1 year old yet, I never expect it would happened. This is an unexpected good news. However, after this time, I would be more careful on them as I wouldn't want my daughter dog to get pregnant every year. :)
