How shoul a christian respond to halloween parties?  

If you believe God and His Word, then stick with it and be firm in your faith. Halloween is the devil's day and participating in such is a wicked thing for a Christian. Make a search, develop your conviction, and stand firm and strong as a Christian should do in these times of apostasy and deception. Be ye harmless as a dove but wise as a serpent!

Something you can do is tell people who ask that you have other plans for that day. OR be honest and tell them you don't celebrate Halloween because of your personal religious beliefs. My boyfriend and I had this conversation the other day. We decided we both don't celebrate that day.

Yes, Hallowe'en was originally a pagan tradition. The motive was to dress up as scary ghosts and ghouls and creatures in order to drive away the real ghosts and ghouls and evil creatures. How is that such a bad thing for a "christian" to do?

I was raised Christian, and still consider myself one for the most part. But I've always celebrated Hallowe'en. For me it's simply a day to dress up in costume and have fun. What's so wrong with that?

If you feel uncomfortable with celebrating Hallowe'en for whatever reason, don't do it. There's nothing wrong with holding true to your personal convictions, and doing what you feel is right for you. And by not celebrating this "holiday", you aren't hurting anyone, so therefore I wouldn't consider it wrong. In the same respect, those that do celebrate aren't out hurting anyone either.

Do what you feel is best. But I have to ask, even if Halloween was originally a pagan holiday called Samhain, do you really think it makes a difference? Do you realize how many of our christian holidays are influenced by pagan beliefs?

Christmas Tree:
In pagan times at Winter Solstice it was the tradition to decorate an evergreen as the Winter Tree.

Christmas itself:
December 25th does not fit with scriptural suggestions of when Christ was born, the date was chosen to supplant Winter Solstice celebrations

The Pagan symbol for fertility and rebirth.

Is derived from Germanic tradition

The name Easter is not of Christian origins at all but of Ester A Pagan goddess of fertility rebirth and spring.

In the end it doesn't matter. Halloween need not be of any religious significance unless you make it so. Putting on a mask and asking your neighbours for candy does not mean you are worshiping a pagan god any more than putting up a christmas tree makes you Christian. Holidays, religious or otherwise, carry the significance that you give them. So if you want to view it as a pagan holiday and shun it than do so, but if you want to go out and have a good time in costume and not have it mean anything more than that then do that. I find it hard to believe that an almighty and forgiving god such as the bible claims god is would damn you for having a good time in a non religious setting.

Halloween was a pagan holiday, as people claim the christmas holiday was once pagan. It is what you make it. Halloween is only bad if you make it bad. You choose what you will celebrate on that day. Here's what I see besides the ghosts and witches. People sharing. You go door to door, and strangers give you what they have. Its a celebration of people sharing with one another. So go on and celebrate it.
