different maternity leave all over the world

i wish i had had my children in canada at least i could have had over a years worth of maternity leave and with my two being just 16 months apart i wouldnt have gone back between the two there

In Canada, we get almost a year off, if the mom decides to take the paternal leave too. It is pretty neat as we get much more time to spend with our children and cater to their needs. And also it is easier to leave a child with baby sitting when they are atleast a yr old rather than when they are too small like below 3-6 months old.

In my country (Philippines) for normal deliveries it would be 60 days while 78 days for ceasarian birth. The two are both paid leaves.

This makes interesting reading and it can be seen that maternity leave differs in every country listed. Some countries are very generous to both the mother and the father like in Germany. The Chinese lady on maternity leave gets 100% of her usual pay so that is excellent. Canadian ladies have it generous whilst American ladies have nothing. The Swedish lady is lucky to be allowed 480 days maternity leave. Life is not equal in every country of the world. In some countries the father doesn't get parental leave.

here in Mexico women get 40 days before and 40 days after they give birth. As far as I remember those are not full paid. For dads there's no legal requirement by law to give workers free days, but employers usually give you a couple days.

As an American I was guaranteed no legal leave. I had accumulated 2 months of sick leave, three weeks of holiday pay and nearly four months of vacation at my job. Even though I never called in and chose to save my time I was treated badly by my employer. The day after I gave birth he called the hospital, demanding that I return to work immediately. (I didn't.) I went back to work after seven weeks, per my physician.

Once I returned to work I noticed that I was passed over for promotions. I received numerous write-ups, though I had never received one before I had my child. Not only that but I found that no matter how many transfers I applied for I was denied. I eventually left.

I wish that more was offered to American women and men by way of maternity/paternity leave. If it had been guaranteed per federal law my employer would never have tried to call me in my hospital room and would not have pushed for me to return to work immediately.
