Ratings Up and Down?

I've read a lot about our friends here being rated up and down. Some of you know who they are. What's up with this rating system? I have never rated anyone down because I see no purpose in it. That's like putting the member down simply because you don't like that member. There have been a lot of misunderstanding too. What has mylot gone into? I hear there are those reporting people for being very repulsive. And people get banned! I can understand if some may have violated rules here. But I think that members have the right to speak their mind on anything. Freedom of speech. We are all here to go on discussions and share, in my opinion I can take anything good or bad. I learn from it all. I put it to good use. Matter of fact, I've learned probably years of experience here on mylot than anywhere else in a few weeks. Whoooaaa!! I can never rate down a person because of what has been said. All members have their own minds and their own opinion. Okay, say someone on here calls me a devil imp or something, I can take that, along with other swearing and any word that gets banned. Fine by me. I'd just read about it and I can see how other people think of me. Like look in a mirror, monster. Monster or not, I'm probably one of the most nicest guys on mylot. I never said anything to hurt anyone, and I wouldn't rate or report anyone frying my sorry little a$s here. It's just words, it can hurt. But I believe the truth is good even if it hurts. It's my opinion, and I know others don't share that with me, but after all what is a discussion site all about anyways. What say ye myLotters? Lol.

Uhh...One quick way to say that rating system has a purpose: it does something to your earnings. I don't have any complaints with rating others or reporting or whatever, for me it's just one way to help myself and others do well in mylot, financially...heehee(because usually I put plusses on members and their numbers go up and my number goes down and I don't know why heehee).

Nah that was some joke back there because I keep on helping people gain reps by putting pluses and I got mine lowered down most of the time for reasons I don't quite understand. Maybe they hate me and keep on putting those negative signs on me hehe. But some of us myLot-ers experimented on the ratings and it really helps on the earning side. Not that it matters if you're here for the fun of it like most of us do.

Yeah I don't care too much about it anyways. I don't even see or know where my ratings are. I just opened this discussion after all the stuff I read about people frying everyone with all that crap and all. Lol. It just make me wonder you know.

I can so relate to this because I have been a victim of this act in the past. I would be lying if I said it didn't affect me at all; but I somehow put it off my mind because the ratings shouldn't affect our earnings in any way. I just continue to participate as much as I can on mylot without looking too much at the ratings. I have also seen a lot of mylot members starting discussions about being a victim of these acts and trying to get the sympathy of other mylot members to rate them up.
Like you, I really can't comprehend and see the reason why people would ever want to use the negative rating on others. If someone thinks that a certain post is not up to their standard, by all means just surf to another page and avoid it; why put someone else down by rating them negative because of it? Worse of all, I have heard of mylot members who confessed of rating negative to posts that they thought were filled with atrocious English. What those people can't see is that mylot has international members and that not every member has English as their first language. Besides, most of us are even still learning to master the language anyway.
What I suggest mylot could do to curb this so-called "problem" would be to do away with the negative ratings. Take away the negative rating but let the positive rating remain. Hence, members can only rate other members positive if the post is useful and informative, but no negative rating to put others down. I have seen an online forum which is actually using this method after people started abusing the negative rating system, and it is actually quite sucessful so far. If mylot could do this, I'm sure there'll be a large improvement on this site too. But still, the ultimate decision lies in the hands of the admins of mylot, while we members can only give our opinions and two cents.

Yeah, I just hate those people who can't accept individuality and difference in opinions. I guess some people are really just sadistic in nature, and just want to trample on people to make themselves feel "superior" to others....

I can only count in my fingers how many times I've rated someone negative and it's not because we don't have the same opinion. I remember one time giving a (-) to someone because he was too rude every one was getting furious already, not rude in a funny way and every one's getting hurt. When I respond to discussions that have the opposite opinion as mine, I respect them and still give them a (+) if their discussion was really good or if not, I just leave it as is. I don't like giving (-) to others just because of shallow reasons. Anyway, I also experienced my rating going up and down when I was just new here. My rating would go up to 9 and in a matter of minutes would go down to 5. I don't know what's up with that but I'm glad it's not happening to me anymore.

I have given people a lot of pluses, especially those who have answered my discussion. If they give me a wonderful opinion, I will rate them with a plus. If thee write nonsense in my discussion, I do not rate them with a minus. I just leave it be. My star goes up and down sometimes. I have been having 10 star for quite awhile, last week it went down to a nine. Someone must have rated me down. I don't know if they can't take jokes or something. I do joke around at times, to lighten things up, especially on serious topics. Maybe I have reminded someone about a mylot rule they are violating and did not like it. But whatever it is, I try my best to behave as friendly to other mylotters her as possible.

Yeah you got that one right heaven. I think it's not always too bad to rate down someone. But only if he goes out of line right? I mean way out. You just can't rate down someone because of the lil thing he said. What if someone went on a rampage and rate down everyone at random. I think that's something we should all be concerned of. That is totally way out of control. Lol. Thanks for your response. Cheers!

People who are conceited and expect everyone to have the same beliefs as them will - anyone who disagrees with them. We are all starting to not care about the ratings anymore because they mean nothing now, because they are abused much of the time. What really matters is that we get what we came here for!

True Sheepie! It's not what we are here for. Those ratings I mean. Mylot is all about sharing experiences, views and life itself. The works. Money is probably just comes second because it's not really that much. Thanks for the response. cheers!!!

Some people rate you negatively if you don't agree with what they are saying. That's why the majority here prefer no to thread on other people's foot. Personally I don't care if I have a blue star or a red star. I speak my mind out and others can rate me accordingly. I have no problem for that. This is a discussion site and we are not here to please the others.

It is not possible to know - how you have been rated by any member or at all if someone has rated you negative, there is no way of knowing it. It does not get reflected anywhere and its vice versa is also true, if you have rated someone say positive (+), he/she cannot come to know automatically about it (you will have to inform him/her that you have rated him/her). Therefore, recently I started a discussion which was somewhat similar and my most of the friends/members told me that they always rate positive.

We've come here in myLot for free sign up and earn, to have friends, to voice out our opinions. But where ever you go there's always a law, and the law excuses no one. So better for us myLot users to be more friendly, and accept every opinions posted and responded even commented good or bad. I never rate negative even some users corrected me of my spelling, which is a violation of the rule here, I still gave positive rates.

Maybe there are some users who are trying to break the bond of all myLot users and destroy this site, Their are using the method " art of war" trying to ruin something that could benefit them. Do you think there are regestered myLot users who are used by other sites to destroy myLot?

Ah finally one brilliant concept. Far but never impossible. After all there is a lot of competition online. I have seen this art of war in jail as well as in the free world. You never know who's out to get you and everyone else. You can create a problem, make everyone fight among each other and then offer your solution. Lol. I see that everyday in my corrupt country. Well done, Omar. We should all stop believing that the world is a bed of roses because its not. There is a balance of good and evil. You cannot fight that because it will always be a balance. You just need to be wary. Lol.

I personally don't pay much attention to the rating system, or the stars. I did happen to notice yesterday that my "star rating" had dropped, and thought who cares? LOL Its just a star. It doesn't affect me. I come here to post and respond and I won't pretend to be someone else just to keep a different colored star next to my name. So silly.

Nope, I don't care what the star says - or if I even have a star. I come here for fun, to post, to chat, and to be entertained. I'm not here for a "gold" star on my report card. LOL

I do agree with you wolverene. For my 2 months of stay here, I never used the (-) because I don't think it's right. Everyone who responded to my discussion deserves to be appreciated no matter what they responded to me. Although I admit I rated a plus to some deserving people.

Oh my! I just found out that I already responded here. Is it a violation? I never intended to do it.

I don't really understand what this rating system is. I have a friend who always answered to my discussion and I always rated him a plus, but everyday, I saw his rating went up and down. I also never rated anyone as - even if there are some members who offended me with their answers.
