Go to a camera shop, try them both and see which feels "right" to you. The control layout, the menus, the general feel.... that's how you choose between two cameras that have essentially the same specs.

Davidarich (766) | 1 year ago | Sure, once you are sure of your choice. But make sure you try out the cameras you like the sound of. Buying a camera is a bit like buying shoes.... it isn't enough to know your size, you have to be sure they are comfortable; try them first!

4. charlies2805 (610) | 1 year ago | For me, it doesn't matter what brand I use, as long as it can take me a beautiful picture... If you want to buy a new camera just think first how many megapixel do you want... Because for me either Sony or Canon is both good brand... And don't forget to buy some external memory card to take picture a lot more...

6. tintusam (1093) | 1 year ago | IF YOU WANT GREAT BANG FOR YOUR BUCK, I'D GO FOR A Canon SD700. GREAT FEATURES, 6MP (TRUST ME YOU WON'T NOTICE THE DIFF BETWEEN 6/7MP) THE PRICE SAW IT THE OTHER DAY FOR $219. THE PIX ARE STUNNERS AND MOSTLY ALL THE FEATURES YOU COULD EAT. WHY PAY MORE? FOR A POINT AND SHOOT, YOU WILL NEVER BE SORRY......

7. stiener (501) | 1 year ago | If you are referring to compact camera, similar model for a fair comparison...Sony stands out in terms of photo quality and Lens (Leica). However, their price is relatively higher than Canon as well.
If you are referring to DSLR, although Alpha offers Leica lens as well which is better in optics but they do not offer much variety...Canon in comparison offers a wide range of lens and DSLR bodies that will be able to fit into most photographers budget....

Davidarich (766) | 1 year ago | I think you may be confusing Sony with Panasonic. Panasonic owns LKeica and the Leica lenses are the standard on Pnasonic Lumix cameras. While Panasonic also make cameras with the Leica brand, and also make Leica lenses for other cameras, to the best of my knowledge, no other compact camera has Leica optics.
Sony took over the camera and lens parts of the Minolta company some years ago, and their cameras are essentially Minolta body/lens systems with Sony electronics (that's a bit unfair, since the latest Sony offerings are significantly different from the older Minoltas). Anyway, Sony uses its own Minolta-based optics, not Leicas.
Independent reviews of similar cameras of the compact type generally rate Panasonic best, followed by Canon, Nikon. The latest offering from Canon will probably change that for a while, since it is the first small-sensor compact camera to offer a low-nooise CMOS sensor in place of a traditional CCD.
