myLot is absolutely nothing like those social networking sites, not one single bit.
There is no way to tell who is online or not here on myLot.
myLot is all about discussions and you earn money to post responses to discussions and to start your own. A lot of us are friends here, but it is a totally different type of friendship than you see in the social networking sites.
If you want to know more about how it works, please take a look at my profile. I have two articles that explain a lot about mylot and how to navigate the system, how earnings work, etc.

myLot is different from the site you have mentioned, the most notable way is you are not earning from those sites the way you are earning here in myLot. in friendster, you need to be a member in certain group to engage in discussion/s. i've been in friendster for a long time already but i cannot compare the maturity of discussions here, there. the diverse knowledge and people around here is so enormous and so wide. i seldom visit my groups there because of that reason or am i just situated in a wrong group. on the other hand, i cannot see the point of knowing who's online or not and what purpose does it serves. well, that is just me.

I think your idea is pretty good. Because it's also nice to see which one of the members is online like the forum site. But in here we can quess the user is been online or not. By view in his profile page and see the last loggin time at the bottom page.
Keep post
Happy myLotting...
