Electric lines and sneakers?  

There is no true explanation, except for maybe finding the people who put them there, and asking them why.

But here are some suggested reason that I have heard through the years.

One is that it is a sign of gang activity, or a marker for a gang's territory, you might say. Another theory has been told that when teenage boys lose their virginity, they throw their sneakers over the lines.

However, it has been said that there are more hanging there when school lets out for summer, than any other time of year.

So, most likely, it is usually just pranks.

I was once told that it meant someone was killed in gang activity. The people who killed them then took off their shoes and hung them on the wire.

I doubt this is true.

I've seen this often in movies but don't know what it means either.
