What's the remedy for a burned or scalded tongue?

I was in a hurry to eat yesterday because I was so hungry, and I ended up burning my tongue. Now I have this weird feeling on my tongue like it's raspy and I can't really taste stuff. I had my favorite mint chocolate ice cream yesterday, but I didn't really enjoy it as much. This has happened to me a lot, actually, and I know this is bad. What's a remedy for this?

The ice cream was probably too cold. Stick to warm foods. Try gargling with salt water. Probably by tomorrow your mouth will feel better.

It's funny because I got a sundae from McDonald's and I stuck my tongue onto it and it actually helped get rid of the raspy feeling!

Hi, mymelodake. The best thing to do would be to put some cold water on your tongue. Try to drink cold water every time that you get thirsty or feel dry in the mouth. And just try to remember blow your food so that it won't be so hot.

Unfortuately there is no instant cure, it will take a while to heal and will be sore until then, also the taste sensation will take a bit to come back - but it will go back to normal!! the best thing you can do it do warm salt water mouth washes, i know it sounds disgusting but it will really help to keep everything clean so the burn can heal nicely, just make sure you spit it out afterwards!!! I used to be a dental nurse and this is genuinely the best thing you can do! the good news is that because there is such a good blood supply to your mouth, it is one of the fastest healing parts of the body!! Just don't be in such a hurry to eat in future!! xxxx

I don't know any particular remedy but I came by to check if others have as I seem to have this problem every now and then.

It is a self healing problem. So dont worry about. Tounge is an amazing part of our body that heals almost always without any treatment. But then ice is a good way to numb the sensations that can be applied without resorting to any other medications. so my advice is apply some ice, better keep the ice chips on tounge for 2-3 minutes at a time. But as you might be feeling the weird sensation should be wearing off by now, so it will heal completely in 2-3 days without any treatment.

Don't eat or drink anything too cold because it sometimes makes the burn feel worse. Normally the rough feeling goes away after a couple days.
