5 Things You Never Knew Your Cell Phone Could Do |
| |
| For all the folks with cell phones. (This should be printed and kept in your car, purse, and wallet. Good information to have with you.) There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it: FIRST Emergency The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find Yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile network and there is an Emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to Establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly, this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out. SECOND Have you locked your keys in the car? Does your car have remote key less entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys In the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot From your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your k eys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other 'remote' for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk). Editor's Note: It works fine! We tried it out and it unlocked Our car over a cell phone!' THIRD Hidden Battery Power Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370#. Your cell phone will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell phone next time. FOURTH How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone? To check your Mobile phone's serial number, key in the following Digits on your phone: *#06#. A 15-digit code will appear on the screen. This number is unique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code. They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won't get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can't use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones. And Finally.... FIFTH Free Directory Service for Cells Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don't have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800)FREE411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.< BR> This is the kind of information people don't mind receiving, so Pass it on to your family and friends. | | | | | |

He is always forgetting to charge his phone when I am trying to reach him when he is gone for the day telling me his battery ran out so he couldn't call me. Well now he won't be able to use that excuse anymore! Thanks for some really serious and useful tips! I will pass this along to my friends who I am sure will be very thankful to get them! | | | | | | |

| | Here's few things that might make things little easier. The 15 digit number you get after pushing *#06# is called "IMEI" number, short for International Mobile Equipment Identity. Almost all phones, you can find that number when you take the battery off instead of pushing *#06#. Matter in fact, you should be able to find that number right on the box of the phone came in. By the way, this method only works with GSM based phones, such as AT&T and/or T-Mobile. You may be able to pull up IMEI numbers off of CDMA based phones, such as Verizon & Sprint, but from my understanding, calling the IMEI number into the service provider will do very little, or at least no more than just calling in & telling them your phone got stolen. As far as free directory goes, there is also another option where if you have unlimited, or even decent amount of text messaging, you can send an information or the question to 46645. It will send you a text message back with information you're looking for. You can send a text message to 46645 something like "Home Depot, 19008", then it will send you back a text message, possibly more than 1 or 2, with all the home depots in & near the zip code 19008. It will give you the address & the phone number. The service is provided by google for free. Although it will work with most, that battery power thing doesn't work with ALL brands & models of the cell phone. What I would suggest is before putting it on the charger for the night, try it out & make sure it works with your model before just assuming that it will work. As far as unlocking the car door through cell phone, there is a claim out there that it won't work. http://www.snopes.com/autos/techno/keyless.asp. This article talks about opening the door with remote through the cell phone. There is a little section where people thought it was possible because they were in fact with in the range of the keyless remote so they "thought" they unlocked the door through the cell phone but in fact, it was just within the range of the remote itself. Now! If this really works, then great, but just like anything, I wouldn't solely depend on this without trying first. But then there's also a claim that this method works better with GSM based phones, or network, than CDMA based network. Also there are few free services out there. Let say you're going to a non formal social event that you want to get out of it sooner instead of having to stay till the end. There's a website that gives you a call at a preprogramed time. Site is called "http://www.getmooh.com/" Tell the person, "I have to go. I just got an emergency call". Also there's a phone number you can call if you wanna find out the song that's playing at the moment & you wanna find out the name of the song. It's 1-866-411-SONG. Hold your phone to the speaker for about 15 seconds & they'll send you a text message with the song informations. Oh, by the way, THIS SERVICE IS NOT FREE. They'll give you only the first try for free but the rest, you have to subscribe to it. Then there's an information you can get for food. If you send a text message to 34381, it spells diet1, with a restaurant menu item, it will send you back the nutrition informations. Hope you'll enjoy... | | | | | | |

| | Oh, by the way, that last thing about the food nutrition information, you have to send the text message to 34381 with both name of the restaurant & the menu item. You just can't say, "big mac", you gotta send "McDonald big mac". | | | |

| | This is the third or fourth time I have seen this information posted here on MyLot. I'm not coming down on you for plagiarism, but I want to know if you know which phones these codes work for, or which service? I have tried all of these, and the only thing that I can get to work for me is the car lock trick. None of the other codes work for my Kyocera, nor any Nokia's that I have encountered. This would be a great help if it was listed which phones the codes work for for the battery power, and the lockdown trick. I didn't try the 112 thing, because I haven't been outside of my area, and its not nice to play with emergency services. | | | | | | |

| | Good information. This isn't really a phone function, but a useful piece of advice anyway. Apparently if you put your emergency contact number on your phone under a name of "ICE" (In Case of Emergency) and if you are ever in a bad situation where you're hurt or something, Emergency personnel will look for that on your phone so that they can contact somebody. | | | | | | |
