Maybe some personal care items, a book or some magazines, some stationary, pens, envelopes and maybe some postage if you can find out how much the postage is from there to the states. Maybe go out and take some photos of your hometown and let them see some nice landscapes. Those are just a few suggestions, I know they probably aren't good ones as I have never done this. It is something that would be great to do any time of the year but especially now with holidays just around the corner.

First I wanted to say it's so thoughtful and kind of you to send packages over!
Here are a few things that I'm sure would be helpful and appreciated:
Instant Coffee
Hot cocoa mix
Beef Jerky/Slim Jims
Pre-sweetened drink powders such as gatorade and kool-aid
Single servings of snacks such as nuts
And things other than food/drink:
Magazines
Decks of cards
Hand-held games
Razors
Hacky Sacks
Crossword puzzles, Sudoku, etc
I've also read that sometimes, depending on where they are I'm sure, they have portable DVD players so if you're looking to get rid of some unwanted DVDs of yours, this could be a great way to do so.
Just think of things that you would want if you were away from home!
