This common herb can, apart from it's culinary use in soups, salads and stews, be used to cure headaches, stomach and nervous complaints. Use about 1/4-1/2 teaspoonful of the herb, should be steeped in one cup of boiling water for a while strained and drunk when cool .
The same preparation may also be used as a gargle to help check bad breath.

Breath purifier
Aid in digestion of fat
Free radicals reducer

Muscular stiffness and pain

Preparation :
Flower tea for the breath.
Boil water with rosemary in it to make it safe to drink.
Diuretic and liver aid, increases bile flow. Two handfuls of flowering tips into 2 cups of good brandy, soak 10 days, strain and seal. Mouthful twice daily.
Oil of rosemary is a natural anti-oxidant, and stress reliever
Sniff for headaches.
Chop a double handful of twigs and put in a pint of olive oil for one week, and use as a muscle liniment.

Rosemary is used for flavoring food, a beverage drink, as well as in cosmetics. In folk medicine, rosemary is used as an antispasmodic in renal colic and for dysmenorrhoea, in relieving respiratory disorders and to stimulate growth of hair. Extracts of rosemary relax smooth muscles of trachea and intestine, and have liver protective and anti-tumor activity.

The most important constituents of rosemary are carnosol, carnosic acid, caffeic acid and its derivatives such as rosmarinic acid. These compounds have powerful antioxidant activity. Rosmarinic acid is well absorbed from gastrointestinal tract and from the skin. It increases the production of prostaglandin E2 and reduces the production of leukotriene B4 in human white blood cells, and inhibits the complement system. This makes rosmarinic acid a strong anti-inflammatory agent.

I love Rosemary and use it often esp. in meats and stews. I didn't know it helped prevent food poisoning.

I use it to flavor foods but I didn't know about the preserving qualities.
Either that or I did and had forgotten.
I have a big book of herbs but I haven't looked at it in a while.

LOL I do a lot of things that I've learned to do since I studied herbology, and forget why I do them til I read something somebody else writes. When I get sick my son has to pass back the knowledge I've passed on to him, because I forget. Sounds like I need to use more rosemary! lol
