Be Careful When Applying Flea And Tick Medication!  email this discussion to a friend?

When applying your dogs' monthly flea and tick medication, you are supposed to put it behind their necks where they can't reach it. Well, just recently a friend of mine was giving his dog her medicine when some of it dripped down the side of her neck. She licked it up and started convulsing. She had to go to the vet to get an IV treatment to flush the medicine out of her system.

These medications are safe for your dogs when applied correctly, but can be harmful if your dog ingests them. So be extra careful each month when giving your dog the medicine! Make sure the medicine stays where it's supposed to and doesn't dribble down where your dog could lick it up.

Just thought I'd pass along this warning since it was a very traumatic experience for my friend! Have you ever had a similar experience with any type of dog medication?

I am always careful but this is a very good post. There may be some people who dont know that this can happen. They just assume its safe. It has to be used correctly or your animal can get very ill.Appreciate the information and hope it saves someones pet from getting sick!

Yes i agree, this medications are supposed to be topicals only and should never be ingested by your dogs. And also if its Frontline you are applying, do not massage or rub it, it could lead to allergies or overdose.
