Hello fellow mylotters. I can't help noticing over the counter medicines. It claim that it will cure anything. But I am the type that believes in olden day remedy. Like the one to cure cold. I will take a spoonful honey with fresh lemon juice. It did help to cure sore throat? Do you have any other grandmother's remedy to cure cold. Care to share with fellow mylotters?

I think I'm pretty lucky, because I happen to have a doctor that isn't all about writing prescriptions unless absolutely needed. I've read a few books on the subject and I'm convinced my doctor is correct when he says... over the counter meds and prescriptions do not cure anything! They do treat the symptoms, but they do not cure whatever caused you to become sick.
A cold is simply a virus that needs to run it's course. Plenty of rest, vitamnins, water and a healthy diet will not only help to kcik the virus out quicker, but will also help your body fight off the virus from ever taking hold in the first place.
I haven't had a bad cold in quite some time (they only last less than a day) but I breathe the steam from eucalyptus and boiled water. I place a large towel over my head and breathe the steam for 10-15 minutes. Homemade chicken soup, filtered water and an apple and orange each day, also help to get much needed nutrients into the body. Rest as much as you can, and you'll find the cold virus to be quickly defeated.
As you, I also believe in what my mom and grandmothers told me on how to combat a cold and they work much faster than any over-the-counter meds.

I met with a doctor while I was hospitalized a few years ago. He told me he had 36 hour shift and during his shift it was impossible to get any sleep. There was always emergency cases coming in the middle of the night because of accidents. Because he was lack of sleep, he was always caught in cold and soar throat.
He told me the remedy is just to eat an orange. That's all. After eating an orange he always feel better afterwards. He told me whenever we catch a cold it is because we are lack of vitamin C. Oranges are rich with vitamin C so that's why we should eat it when we catch a cold.
I am sorry this is not an old grandmother's remedy but at least it is traditional, isn't it? I hope this tip is helpful for you. Have a nice day!

The body should be kept warm - especially the feet, chest, throat and head. Sweating is very helpful.
In cases of dry cough peel a small piece of fresh ginger. Sprinkle some salt on it and chew.
keep posting.. take care and have fun..
