All Inclusive Vacations  email this discussion to a friend?

My husband and I would love to take a vacation that is 'All Inclusive' Has anyone ever taken one of these vacations and to where? I've heard this is the best way to go, since all expenses are paid upfront. For those who may not know what I mean by 'all inclusive' it means that the hotel, tips, meals, drinks are included in the price. We were looking at the US Virgin Islands, St Thomas at the Wyndham hotel. It seems pretty nice and all, but I'd like feedback. We'd like to go April 2009 timeframe. Spring would just be beginning and the weather should be really comfortable during that time period.

All inclusive hotels often keep most of the money that would on a normal holiday would be spread around the local community. So where there are many all inclusive hotels local businesses suffer and so does the local economy if the hotel is owned by a foreigner. Often tourists are told to stay within the complex so they don't get much adventure. They don't get to sample local restaurants or see local sights that they could if they were staying at a bed and breakfast. Sometimes the price is tempting and a lovely time can be had at a tropical destination. I would never take an all inclusive vacation because I am an independent traveler. Typically I buy a flight and then choose where I will stay when I arrive. I travel by bus and train and see an area rather than one resort. I often visit three different countries on the one trip and have a fantastic time. The spring time would be lovely for the Virgin Islands and where ever you stay I hope that you and your husband will have an excellent time.
